What's new

USAirways may be #1 on time, but they are last in award availbility...

My experiences don't actually mirror those for which the thread is named...

Honestly, I've earned millions of miles over the years on US Airways...and my account balance now is on the order of 13,000....I've always been able to use the miles and use them in a way that I've found fair, reasonable and satisfying. (And I realize what I'm saying here is 100% opinion and not based on any fact, other than my own factual experience.)

In fact, in a couple weeks, I'm headed to SJO with the Better Half....and I scored 2 in F for 100,000 total...and pretty much got to go when I wanted. (Never mind that I think F on a US B752, east metal is a joke.)

Conversely, I've had the most significant issues with CO using miles for free trips. I'll bet, of all the miles I've used on CO, I've used nearly as many on upgrades to F as anything. Just did PVD-EWR-MAN and burned 20K to get myself into "Business First," very easy. (I don't think The King could be more wrong...or more inexperienced here.)

I dunno folks, I actually do believe one thing US does and does well is make award seats available. I use them at the lower levels 80% of the time. And I've NEVER used miles to upgrade on US.

You're actually agreeing with most of what I said so in what way am I wrong or inexperienced?

What else I wanted to say? People who complain about the minimum US Airways $1400 coach fare requirement for upgrading to Envoy are not thinking clearly. Not only is this the most customer friendly INTL travel upgrade policy of ALL the carriers our there, but it's quite a steal in the summertime. The fact that the the fare req of $1400+ includes taxes and is not just based on US segments is fantastic. Many summer fares to Europe to smaller cities w/ less flts easily reach and pass that amount. US doesn't care what airlines are included in the mix or the final destination so I could be flying to Asia or the Middle East and I still get the upgrade on the US flts, because my fares was $1400+.

Compare that to DL, CO or UA that require you to purchase most expensive Economy fares so you can upgrade.

I can't speak to DL or UA...but your thoughts on CO are not correct.

I just flew CO PVD-EWR-MAN....and I upgraded with no problems from a fare significantly less than "full fare."

Normally, I would pay for "Business First," but on that ticket, they had a crazy price...so I bought Y and upgraded to C, one way, no worries.

Other than that, I do agree with you...the miles I've used on US have been reasonably easy to use.

As a teenager in the 70's I know now how wrong and inexperienced I could be.

30 years from now you may too.

Off topic but, good point...it wasn't 'till I was about 30 or maybe 35 before I realized I didn't know everything. Okay...maybe 40...

Add to that list, "until you are paying for everything on your own, your own house, car, insurance and clothes, you have precious little idea how things in this life and world really work."

Bottom line, ur right Dog Wonder.

The difference between you, Van, and King is that his whole post was about using US miles on *A partners. Your experiences seem to be focused on actually redeeming your miles for travel on US metal which seems to be an exceptional experience compared to what most people have posted (and what the referenced study found).

Agreed...like I said, it's 110% annectdotal, just my experience and mine only.

You're right as well...for many years, I haven't booked outside US...previous to their lining up with *A, I'd done trips, a number of them, to Europe on BA and AZ, amongst others.

No idea why I've had better luck than most. 'Cause when it comes to US...that's about all I've had in terms of "good luck."
