Can you believe they are offering vacation buy back for flight attendants for December. With the people returning from voluntary furlough and reduced flying, why is this needed. Just another way to make less secondary blocks, force more people back on reserve in December and create more sitting around for those of us who have been on reserve. Sure let the block holders work their block, get their vacation pay and then over time from vacation fly back while us reserves sit around and barely can't eat because we can't fly. It is all about pleasing the block hours. This is an outrage and ridiculous.

That being said, I'm sure that the union officers knew about this and could have mentioned it during the meeting. Why am I not surprised???

I don't even know why anyone would fool around with vacation buy back. If you want to fly over your vacation, just pick something up off the ETB.

To be honest, reserves are so naive about this situation, just call out sick, thats exactly what i do, e-v-e-r-y year.. I refuse to work holidays the rest of my life. Get your doctors note and have a wonderful holiday, that is what i would recommend everyone do on Christmas and all other major holidays..

Yes, I suppose it is if you have 30 plus years and can hold vacation for a couple of weeks in December. If so, how great to make $80.00 plus an hour flying any trip you want while the reserves will be sitting around until the night of the 24th for their first trip of the month. For the record, not blaming blockholders, but where is there any fairness in this? I'm sure we'll see previous overflying records broken in December. Happy Holiday!!!
Just another way to benefit the senior people and screw the junior people. Who has vacation in December, the senior people. Who now will get paid extra while the reserves sit around and not fly, the senior people. Get ready people, see how many people will go back on reserve in December. Think about it. What makes up secondary lines, trips dropped by vacation. When all these senior people fly their trips over their vacations, think how many secondary blocks will be lost.
I called Paul Kinsey this morning as soon as I found out about this. The explanation he gave me was because staffing is usually short over the holidays (B.S.) because bh's go on the ail and trip improve off their trips causing a shortage. Whatever Blah ,blah,blah. Doesen't make any sense to me what so ever. :down:
It is no wonder why we are in the finanical condtion that we are in with decisions like this being made. Pay people to fly what is essentially overtime while hundreds of people sit around and get paid for now working, all for coverage for a week's time frame. Give me a break. Perhaps everyone should call like Etops did and voice their opinon. After that call AFA and let them know how you feel. MAKE YOUR VOICE KNOWN.
