Lesson for you and Velvet. Union 101 - EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIALBLE.............

Check this out from cwa.net
Did the IBT/CWA Association approve or negotiate this policy?

NO. Union's normally do not negotiate discipline or attendance policies. The reason is that it would make it very difficult to challenge our members being disciplined under a policy that we negotiated. We believe it is more beneficial to reserve our right to challenge the discipline meted by the employer. Under the IBT/CWA Association, we have "Just cause" language protecting us, giving us the right to grieve any discipline issued to us under this new policy or any other Company policy.

ok so it is understood it was not negotiatable...sorry bout spelling....but the items that violate that contract....?? Come on....somehow it was "finagled" to reduce discipline from 18-12 months---this wasnt a "negotiation" was it??? What would you call it???
Had the prez of the locals seen it when it was fist given out---JULY-then it never would have gotten to this mess...since the person in question here seems to think that this is her personal union...look what happened. She needs to go....ahill@cwa-union.org
Stand by for an IBT address....
maybe we should see about just going all IBT? All unions have their issues but look at the voice IBT has.....something to ponder....it will be my qqq to IBT
t

just remember the union is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Go for it guys. From where I sit I hear nothing good about the person
PB I am confused....from where you sit you have heard nothing good about the subject?

How do you know she is on a "poster hunt"...I was given the impression that you might be tight or an aquaintance of this subject...?

Doesn't matter either way...we pay her salary and she needs to realize she works for us and we can only do our best to let the big ones know we are not satisfied with her performance. If she was on the ACP then she would have already progressed to a level 3/termination.

PB \thanks for answering....
arbitration is settled...why has velvet not posted anything on the board?? what are we waiting for ?
COMMUNICATE VELVET WITH THE MEMBERS WHOM PAY YOU SALARY

My intent wasn't to defend the union's/company's stance, I just wanted to let you know how how it was being spinned. I would like to know if there is a union on the property that has an attendance policy negotiated in their contract.

I think I may have met the woman on time and I wouldn't bet my life on it. I've had the opportunity to meet a great many CWA represented people and it's been my pleasure. Good decent hard working people and I get a little more than miffed when people try to screw with them be they union or company.

As to how I know what I know you'll have to take it on faith that I have cultivated a few friends along the way and I've seen and heard what's going on and I know for a fact that time and effort was taken to identify some of the posters on this thread.

The ONLY reason I even stuck my nose into this was I found out that an effort was underway to identify posters on this thread and it wasn't US Airways.

See the beauty of using me to get information out is no one in CWA/IBT or US Airways can censor me. There was an ACTIVE effort to stifle dissent going on and I was having none of it, my business or not. Personally I don't care who is elected to negotiate what with whom. However I DO care deeply that people not be intimidated just because they have a different view.

"You Guys" need to take control of YOUR union. THAT is an idea I can always get behind.

As far as I know there is a right to free speech in this country. I wouldn't be posting on this website if I thought that they would betray my privacy. Let's put it this way, if Velvet can get all of our names then I want the name of the individuals that released that information to her. This could get very ugly.......

I'm no labor lawyer, but I would imagine the first thing to do is contact the National Mediation Board.

tea42, you are great!!!!
Velvet don't withhold this information like you did with the ACP. The rest of the employees affected deserve to know what happened. Are you afraid of the repercussions?

Lil,
I think they may be afraid...I mean how many are affected by this arbitration ruling? How sad....I think you know I am always in your corner and this just doesn't "fly" with me...it aon't right sista!!

Something wasposted on October 30, on http://www.cwa.net. But, from what I see, the union is trying to present itself as being blindsided by the whole thing. I don't buy it though. There must have been enough time to at least come up with a plan of action. The issues here are not negotiable? Everything is negotiable! Please! Company/Union Labor Relations 101.

I also agree that there are too many company people in the CWA (the airport employee side of things). Communications Workers of America works well with reservations agents. That's all fine and well. But airport service employees, above and below the wing need better representation (i.e. unified representation).

But as far as any type of arbitration, nothing that I have seen is up yet. So, I don't know. Something is not right with the CWA.

This was posted more than a month before the implemented time of action? And nothing has been done yet? This really leaves a lot to be desired.

Why don't you run for office?

I can see different representation for flight attendants......but RES and ATO are still under the same 'Customer Service umbrella'.

how do you feel about representation all IBT? Just asking for opinions....not saying it would be any better(or worse??) but I have yet to heat anything from big V on what they are doing to challenge some of the CSA violations....heck, nothing is even posted on the site about the pay arbitration that was lost.....

the only problem you'll face with that is the cwa is apart of afl-cio and the teamsters will stay away

Can you say RAID. Velvet is CWA's equal to Canale. It would not be hard for them to be coaxed to the dark side.
