What's new

We tried to tell you on the AMFA picket line

The protest bus left the station....about two years ago. 🙁

Why all the bitching and gnashing of teeth now ALPA, AFA (PFAA), iam???? <_<

I don't think Dougie Stealin' can hear you......

You ask a question that must make many SCABAIR employees feel uncomfortable. When it was time to stand they chose to deal with the devil.

Now it's so apparent that the jobs they sought to keep have been diminished to substandard wages, a high misery index and only a shadow of what those jobs used to be.

The AMFA Mechanics, Cleaners and Custodians collected full pay until the strike. Only SCABS and a handful of mechanics and cleaners returned to SCABAIR.

Having stood tall then starting over most of the honorable strikers have done well.

Why did so many SCABAIR employees choose to deal with the devil? I can think of excuses but no reasons.

It's a tough question, sadly one that has come and gone. Most of the pilots, f/a's, and rampers didn't want any part of standing up to the bullies at Scabair. They didn't want to hear us standing out in the 100+ degree heat for days....YOUR NEXT!!!! Nope, not us. Most would just look down and keep walking. 😛h34r:

So now it has come to pass, and Dougie is having his way with his "A New Day at Scabair" friends. This is how they wanted it, right? Too late to cry about the spilled milk now!!!!

Scabair even got some dumbasses to help Dougie ring the Wall Street dinner bell. Smiling away as they watched Stealin' smirk like the Grinch.....all that was needed was a green suit. 🙄

Sickening.

very disgusting i know of numerous people who wont fly scab air. what a joke of an airline. now its hard to tell if they are worse than us or the other way around. i guess same mgmt just different carriers

I think, moreso this is about CEO compensation within the US (although they cited some other companies) this is an old gripe.
European counterparts would consider American CEO's thieves. Surely they are compensated but not rediculously so. Why aren't the shareholders ask those questions. Different cultures, different school of thought.

There needs to be a better system of checks and balances within the states.

It's not Doug Steanling don't hear us, it is ... no one cares.

Well Jen, I heard alot of complaining in the video from the two married F/A's and the pilot about the reduced pay and benefits Scabair management has imposed. Well, it was voted in really.

Stealin' could have eaten some dirt if the others would have honored the AMFA picket line.

My point is, its a little too late to complain.

yup. I think so too!
Well we (Mr. and I) adjusted- there's people out there taking charge of their own future...and not be a hostage to it. Some pilots are doing well working at other companies...

What gets me is about Mrs. Steenland complaining about how we just don't "understand" how hard her husband works....
And how she hates moving from her second home in Ft. Meyers...
Nice to live a life in a protected bubble...
(and why pass ride on our dirty airplanes? I just had a F/C customer sit on some gum on the seat....)

Interesting video. You are right, Hackman, about the bus having already left. It appears that all the union folk totally screwed the pooch on this one and the only people that came out ahead was management and the ignorant scabs.
Lets breakout some of that 20/20 hindsight:

I figure the pilots should have stood by AMFA instead of crying about LLM deferrals in clear weather. The F/A's I figure should have been standing by the mechanics as well instead of crying about deactivated hotplates not working. The IAM well I guess those guys shouldn't have been so quick to steal struck work.

The Original Scabs however increased their pay by 30% and picked up medical/dental benefits along with holiday and vacation pay plus a job that lasts all year at the same place. These are benefits that you do not receive at all as a contractor. So what some of you guys might think of as substandard pay and benefits these guys very much appreciate.

Management took the cake though, along with the cookies and milk.

You want to hear a great oxymoron?... "Scab Union Stewards" , brought to you by AMFA with honorable mention of the IAM, ALPA and the AFA.

I still stand by my "leftfield" theory that the key to stopping all of this would have been to get the TWU dispatchers to honor any kind of line...I contend that this small group was the key to it all.

To wit:

1.Obviously, the company had a plan for maintenance.

2.With the F/A's, They also had a plan for foreign nationals to at least replace interport, and other int'l flying, and had conscripted enough mgmt and non-contract employees to cover a good chunk of domestic flying.

3.Pilots will almost always do what is in their own interests.

4.With DePace 'pounding one out" over the prospect of getting revenge on AMFA, the vocal minority in the IAM were basically left to their own devices.

If the dispatchers (and the TWU) were onboard, none of this would have mattered, since we all no that no 121 flight can take off without a dispatchers release.

Sadly, the TWU group was the first to cave, and the first to sign a permanent concessionary agreement with NWA.

P.S. Hackman, this is not a "dig" on you, as I know you're a TWU member...I'm just pointing out the facts...

I don't know Kev. There are a lot of pilots and mechanics out there that also have dispatchers licenses. They would surely have many scabs in place in no time to replace them.

With that said, you think the TWU (Airline district)would strike???

From a 'UNIONIST' perspective in this 'aviation related' race to the bottom, USAIR 'UNIONS' caved in first (and second.. ). But at least the IAM had 'two' votes to make it right...

B) UT

I disagree, the twu caved in for years before that, especially in 1995 with the Shop Repair Person invention. $9 an hour mechanic positions.

I know (a good number of rampers and CSA's have them as well).

I just don't think the company would have banked on it, and it would have been quite the blindside (even if shortlived).

Sadly, no.

Yes, that was the epitome of dues collection mentality.
