West Fleet Svc. Alienation Syndrome

OK... so let me get this right. America West announces merger with US Airways back in 2005. We now enter 2008 and nothing is different for at least one work group. That would be the West Fleet Service employees. Although the painting of West aircraft is now complete, let me clue those not in the know about some other "America West" items. My pay check still says America West on it. I order new uniform pieces and they say America West or have the AW logo. The equipment I operate on the ramp still has America West signage. WTF?!?!? What company am I working for? I thought the push to "erase" America West was strong and incorporate the "new" US Airways... not happening. In fact, it is having quite the opposite effect... alienation. We are bottom feeders in the minds of the Sand Castle royalty... a neglected work force is an understatement. But hey, glad to have a job still after nearly 12 years in the industry, but questioning and dubious of this whole thing for sure.....

in phl most of the ground equipment and baggage cars have been painted white...they used to be painted grey.

apparently there's a new "heritage uniform" rolling out for the ramp this summer
orange and green for america west, and turd brown shirts to remind fleet what upper management thinks of them.

I couldn't care less what uniform I wear. I couldn't care less what my tug says. I care about a contract that was negotiated 7 years ago, with 7 year old wages, that expired 2 years ago, in a current world.

And by the way, I think the uniforms you order this year will be US Airways regardless of who you work for.

Dougie was quoted in the AZ paper 6 months after the merger about merging the 2 work groups together and his quote was

"I will run them separately for as long as I can IT's CHEAPER THAT WAY" Once again he was only thinking about synergies

not bringing two different cultures together. Who do you think came up with the WEST metal EAST metal thing. that right there is a

division to your 2 different work groups. went through the same thing in 89 with NORTH and SOUTH .. took about 10 years before

that started to go away.

Hey, 3 years later and a possible uniform change for the Westies...a step in the right direction, whoa!
I do agree though, I don't care what it "says", just pay me right! I keep being patient and that is getting too old. That is THE only thing keeping me in place anymore. Many times and many offers later, I haven't jumped ship to the competotor whose planes look like corndogs...but I wish I would have now. They top out at $24.00 an hour and earn triple time on Christmas. One guy was bragging about his Gross Earnings for 2007 over there and it was $119K... Should have, could have, would have. It just sucks that this company we work for is content to have discord between one work group and run two different shows and alienate the people who have put there blood, sweat, and tears into it...

hmm that's the first i've heard of it , i wish they would have posted a copy of the flyer , but i'm not surprised , people out here are nearing their threshold . On the other hand the passenger could just be making it up to get free travel etc .

Seems like an isolated incident, but not surprising at all! Most West Fleet agts. are so tired of this s**t with this merger and IAM. A company that doesn't care and a union that doesn't care. It's no wonder we feel so alienated.

Yeah...screw them...let them go to their a la carte Continental...we still gotta fix this operation and Isom is starting to take the right directives...only if his counterparts in PHX would listen too...
