Who ever it was they need to kiss all agents feet that worked this mess.

They did go overboard, didn't they. We have rev standbys that are going nowhere fast. They could have just rented a car and drove there faster.

Not sure what city this is from (we get them all going the other way next week), but they should do like they did in the old days. When you get to X number of standbys (revenue) going to city Y and Z from the hub, run an extra section and clear out the house. I remember quite a few CLT-MCO-TPA-CLT extra sections in my days. We'd always end up filling it up out of the hub heading south and then do a pretty good job going the other way with an extra section most of the times. This also opens up the opportunity to clear out some MIA/FLL/PBI conx via these cities as well as giving some people the opportunity to maybe fly to MCO or TPA and drive to GNV/DAB/SRQ/RSW if those are oversold all day as well. Of course you run it for the revenue folks stuck all day, but then throw all the nonrevs on with the leftover seats to clear as many of them out as possible.
This idea can of course work in many different directions and markets, but that would require planes, crews and outside the box thinking. Instead though I'm sure we'll continue to roll the oversales to the next flight continuing to compound the problem until it gets so out of hand the people get fed up and do something on their own. Wanna take bets? 😛h34r:

President's Day has always sucked, in my opinion.

Flights are always beyond mobbed. The weather is always lousy somewhere. And the weekend is so short that if one little thing goes wrong, it seems the only option is to say "sucks to be you" and to tell the customer to just go home and try again next Feb 'cause there's not a seat to be had to anywhere warm that'll get them there before they have to turn around and go home.

As of 12 noon on Fri DCA had written out $13,000.00 in dbc invol compensation. Invols and checks have become a way of life thanks to these morons in Tempe . Rather than cut back on the over booking , they would rather have the complaints and write checks. Does it surprise anyone then , that we are consistently at the bottom of the complaint list? So this is the smart decision making by our illustrious leaders? If they would get their heads out of the Arizona sand and listen to what the front line tells them , there would be far fewer problems around holiday periods.

Perhaps they just did not realize the upcoming President's Day holiday on Monday? I think you may be giving Tempe a little to much credit!! Anyone that has ever traveled during the upcoming holiday over the past 10 years or so realizes what a mess it can be!!!

Is it any wonder why US has DOT complaints through the roof? This is not something that happens once. It's constant. Good luck US with bringing your complaints down. Well at least someone defending the wacko's said US is trending in the right direction. PLEASE! ! ! 🙄

In general the authorizations for over bookings seems way down the in past years. I see a lot more flights with zero authorized overbooking and a lot with just 3-5 when they previously had 15-20.

It was the same way back in the late 1980's before we merged PI in. We'd call inventory and beg/plead not to ovesell certain flights and they'd promise to take our input into considieration but on President's Day weekend or Good Friday it was the same old story, lots of involuntaries

My understanding from what I've been told by management is that the only historical data they have for the old East flights is what happened last year and thats it. No other info brought over from previous inventory records. (If I've been told incorrectly, someone please correct). You also have to remember that we have a wonderful system that does not do as systems did in the past and clean up a record when someone gets standby. It did, but only if going to the same city and someone who had been trained did it correctly. If someone is conx in a different city or the person putting the customer on the sb list was trained wrong it didnt work. This created many XXNS customers who actually traveled on something else, but the system didnt recognize that and hence, we have mega overbookings because of the shortcomings of the computer system to adequately process these customers who appeared to be noshows. (We have just been retrained on this procedure and they are supposed to in the March QIK release take care of the conx problem, but this is still only if they conx via the same city from what I understand. Whats the problem, everyone conx via our ONE hub, right? 🙄 ) Until this issue is addressed, things will still be a problem with XXNS and standby.
Also, its like pulling teeth to get inventory dropped many times now. I guess the day of dept inventory people must have gotten an ear full from the ANALysts because you have to beg to get them dropped quite often. Its gotten to the point that we often say just let them oversell them and deal with it if they wont assist (many times when another carrier has irregular ops this happens). I can understand wanting to sell every last seat we can, but when flights are still authorized over by 10 or more day of dept and people call rez to book or US or another carrier starts rerouting before we are aware of it, we are stuck. Maybe they need to drop the aus to 2-5 over day of dept on everything until they can get a better statistical history of the flights?
In the meantime guys, just keep writing the checks. That might be the ONLY thing that gets their attention.

The dim wits in Tempe never cease to amaze me.

I had flights this weekend that were 20 to 30 over sold!! Plus non revs. This stupid sh*** is KILLING us.

I swear to god ...I want to slap the hell out of somebody.

I'd be quite curious as to what routes are overbooked and what the cost of compensation is?

this is from the US AIRWAYS TERMS OF TRANSPORTATION which is available ONLINE Just do a GOOGLE Search for US AIRWAYS TERMS OF TRANSPORTATION
Involuntary
US Airways will offer one of the following types of compensation to customers denied boarding
involuntarily on flights within the continental United States:
A transferable voucher for one free round−trip coach class ticket on US Airways within the
continental United States, or
Cash compensation in the amount of 200% of the sum of the values of the customer’s remaining
flight coupons of the ticket to the customer’s next stopover or, if none, to his/her destination,
but not more than $800.00.

However, the compensation shall be 50% of the amount described above, but not more than
$400.00, if US Airways arranges for comparable air transportation, or for other transportation
acceptable to the customer, scheduled to arrive not later than two hours after the planned
arrival, at the airport of the customer’s next stopover, or at the airport of the customer’s destination
of the flight on which the customer holds a confirmed reservation.
Certain restrictions may apply to these tickets. Any restrictions are disclosed in materials

If the passenger accepts a TFC the cash payment is not given.

PHX analyst go off of historial data for past flights, and info that various airport send for specific high booking events. Example GSO has the furniture marker twice a year, spring and fall. ITH has yearly alumni meetings and the list goes on. What I was told was that the analyst goes by the overbooking on particular flights to bring down the authoriztion levels. Another example that was given to me was this: say the flight you are working is overbooked by 8 on an express flight that holds 50. Agents move passengers off this flight and if this is within 4 hrs of departure those passengers are shown as NO SHOW, and keeps the level at 58. If the flight would actually go over by 8 and the gate agent gives out 8 TFC and sends the report to PHX the booking level would be gradually reduced. Not a good process but that is what happens. You can check your particular analyst via QIK CTRL D, F3. Hope this helps somewhat, I also found out that analyst are changed all the time, so the same analyst might not be covering the same flights on a regular basis.

Sabre and US implemented new software a couple of years before the historic merger and switched over to QIK/Shares. The result of the Sabre software enhancement was fantastic. Inventory was never managed better in my 36 years with this airline. It amazes me that the new dweebs on the block seem to start from scratch on every IT emhancement. If it wasn't for the QIK FIX bombardment by the "Olde US" users, we would be in a real mess. Two years after cutover and passengers are STILL checking in for late flights at the Kiosks only to find out at the gate that they won't make their connection. DUMB!

The newbie’s out west that run this airline forgot two significant events Daytona 500 and the Florida boat show
