What the Heck is going on in California?

Not interested in looking it up now but I believe on Jan 1 they law will change possession to a misdemeanor offense. So in effect, pot will be legal in CA come 2011. Not sure how the Feds will approach this. That will be interesting.

Pot possession (under an ounce IIRC) has been a misdemeanor offense for a long time in CA. My brother is a long time senior cop in CA. Let me just say that with all the other problems they have to deal with, popping someone who has some weed is not high on the priority list (or most who work for him).

The only problem is that the state does not get any tax money (milk) from this cash cow.

OK I looked it up because I knew something was changing. Looks like it will drop from a misdemeanor to a infraction but keep the $10 fine. No idea what that means in terms of the law. Sounds like a misdemeanor goes on your record but a infraction won't? Not sure. May be someone familiar with the law will chime in assuming they have not been punted.

I was just thinking. Given the financial issues that CA is already dealing with, they may not have been interested in going up against the Feds when someone decides to press the issue. A legal fight all the way to the SCOTUS is not a cheap date.

Nothing to fear, China will buy California.

I do not understand the justification for allowing alcohol and nicotine yet a drug that is non addictive they ban. I had read one story suggesting that the cotton industry back in the 1800's or so wanted to protect their market and wanted to keep hemp out and lobbied to get it banned. Not sure if that one is true.

Even if it is not taxed and no revenue is generated the money saved in law enforcement seems like a wind fall in and of it's self. So much for smaller government. I would be interested to see the political make up of the voting. I have my own idea of how that make up would turn out.

From what I heard on those radical talk radio stations that promote the first amendment rights which are so wrong for the progressive agenda and must be abrogated, Latino Moms don't want there little children having legal and or direct access to the weed.

Given that they are minors they would have no more access to pot than they do to alcohol or nicotine. Fear mongering runs amok yet again.

Voted in Brown as Gov. Yet did not vote in legalized pot?
I thought these were on the same ticket!!!

 xUT

What's the difference between California and the Titanic? The people on the Titanic did not vote to hit the iceberg. 😀
