It's time to look ahead for LCC. Where do we see it 2 years, 5 years, or even 10 years down the road. It appears LCC has made the turn to the upside. The stock is at record levels. It has a target price of 100 dollars. Looks like LCC has become the darling of the industry again. The legacy carriers are franticaly trying to emulate LCC(eliminating pension funds, severe cost cuts, work rule changes) to make them a viable entity. With the unrestricted cash available, do you think LCC might be in a buying mode? Is expansion possible with another merger? Who might it be... Stay tuned...

Kinda premature, this merger is not complete yet, there is much intergration to do, time to get through this merger before US thinks of anything else.

I believe this thread is premature.

Agree with 700UW, thread somewhat premature...but here it goes:

US Airways should buy Alaska, very good fit, higher yields. (This was rumored last year).

I cannot see anything else, except bidding for gates/slots at the major East Coast airports, should they become available. Though the justice dept. might have a problem with this.

The talk about US Airways and UAL etc., is, I believe, never going to happen.

Thank GOd!

Ticket Counter(UAL) hands us NOTHING BUT THEIR PROBLEMS.

Good Riddance if we dont.

Hey Safety...don't be bragging like it some great thing to have pensions dumped, BK, concessions, just to keep a lousy paying job.

Unless your holding stock which is ALL speculation, or an exec... your comment sounds like a moron!

U APPEARS to be on top because they are holding on to investor monies. That will run dry eventually, unless economic changes happen in transportation/energy.

A moron I'm not...just an optimist that U will survive and prosper...

My guess: Air China will start PEK-PHL as it's 3rd U.S. city (SFO/ORD the others), join Star Alliance or create a US Code Share and provide asian feed to US Airways - by year end.

America West and US Airways.....both were takeover targets for United. Now AWA and US have married each other with US shrinking in size from the proposed marriage with UA in the past. The new US will take care of UA's attempt to gain control of the airlines in one single stroke.....If UA and US merge, UA would have achieved its past goals, just about 5 yrs later........

I agree. But buying US has been UA's goal since the first attempt in the mid-1990's. At that time, with "employee ownership" a fresh reality, the employee owners nixed UA management's attempt to buyout US and merge the two carriers. With great fanfare, the employee "owners" managed to cut off their collective nose to spite their face. The UA CEO at the time (I think his name was Green..something) said he was disappointed at the employees decision, but that was how the new employee-"owned" UA worked. He also said that another attempt at buying US was inevitable. Even though he was long gone from the front office in 2000, his prediction came true with the second failed attempt at a US buyout.

The fact that the second attempt failed in July, 2001, is a great blessing to the employees of USAirways. Had the sale been inked, there is little doubt in my mind that USAirways would have been systematically and unceremoniously shut down in the aftermath of Sept. 11. This would have been done to save UA. And, absent USAirways lift, such a tactic likely would have kept the other legacy carriers out of bankruptcy. Delta, after all, admitted that their plan to return to profitability rested on USAirways going out of business. UA would have benefitted as well.

Years ago...and I mean YEARS...the CEO of Delta stated that he wasn't looking for Delta to be the largest airline, but the best. We all see what happens when you stray from your goals.

I think it is time for the new US Airways to strive to be the BEST airline and not the "largest lcc". With momentum on our side, this is a wonderful chance to change the image of our company much like CAL did after their chapter 22.

I say no more mergers unless there comes a golden opportunity that will increase revenue for the new US Airways. Right now, the only airline that would come close to that is ALASKA and I see nothing to indicate that they are looking to a) merge with any other airline or B) become a low cost carrier. They have a nitch that is working for them.

Anyway, the Bush family would be hurt if Babs picture wasn't on the Alaska Airline tail.

That's a nice thought but unfortunately I feel that some execs will see a "golden opportunity" to increase their revenue and a merge could happen.
