Wheel falls of Northwest Plane at MEM

A pilot asked if I heard the rumor of a tire falling off an NWA aircraft in MEM. I told her that I hadn't heard that one. It seems that it is true after-all. I notice you guys like to post this stuff as it happens but never bother to follow-up on it. For example what happened to the deal with the part falling through the woman’s roof?

What lousy reporting by the way, "Shop workers estimated the tire weighed 200 pounds." What kind of crap is that? If it smashed into something maybe the weight along with the speed would be note worthy, what lame reporting.

Did the tire come off at touchdown, roll out or during taxi? Was there any speculation at all on the failure? A 200-pound tire on a DC-9? I don't think so, maybe the tire and rim assembly. Did they mean to say wheel?

This looks like something that was printed in the classifieds. I sure hope a professional reporter didn’t write this.

You guys sure do pick some cheesy papers to read.

well if the plane's tire bounced back as stated above while the plane was taxiing in, then obviously it would have had to occur either when the plane touched down or during the roll out. I dont think they read chessy newspapers. But I must say that the scabs job of fixing planes isnt all that good as NWA mgmt says it is.

I would hope they were talking a tire & wheel assy! A recap peeling would have done some other damage, possibly to the flap and maybe FOD.

And you sure do love to minimize the fact that parts are falling off of A/C that you are maintaining.

PTO,

EVEN YOU have to admit, that since SCABS(sorry, replacement workers) are responsible for NWA maintainance, a lot of scary #### has been happening.

?????????

your Buddy, :p

NH/BB's

You might say the the wheels are falling off the whole operation!

No wonder NW is begging for the mechanics to come back.

NW your mechanics are gone. They've moved on to a real job.

PTO says: "It was only a tire+wheel that fell off. What's the big deal?"

Well, PTO imagine that tire+wheel assembly rolling right into the engine inlet of another taxing aircraft like a B737 or A320. Imagine the KA-BOOM that engine would have made when the engine exploded. Just another normal emergency situation at NWA.

Oh Princess Darling, I do not think we are intimate enough for you to be putting words into my mouth.

I never said that it wasn't no big deal I just said the details were lacking. Are the chances of that wheel coming off maintenance related? More than likely but you don't know that, yet you automatically point he finger at the Scabs. Please do keep in mind that the AMFA Boys are back also. The part that fell through the woman’s roof could have come from another carrier yet you automatically point the finger at NWA. The 747 that nosed skided across the runway in Guam happened before we scabs even took over. The engine that shelled out on the DC-9 was going to shell no matter who was working here. As far as DEAD BIRDS Dead Bird, well we know all about that now don't we. I am not minimizing anything here, I'm just not going to let you guys blow things out of proportion.

Yea oL Buddy NH/BB, I will say that some things have happened, are they out of the ordinary though? At the MRO's when we are doing the X-rays, we find all kinds of tools that you guys leave behind. You don't hear about that very much though do you? You have an anti-skid valve that fails, is that the fault of maintenance? I have yet to see a mechanic look at a valve and say "Hey that’s going to fail we should change it now." It doesn't work that way and you know it.

Yeah PK, don't put words into 'Cods mouth, he doesn't have the room with BOTH FEET INSERTED.

Captain, "Hey, was that a wheel and tire assy that just passed the airplane?"

F.O., "No, that was just a tire passing the airplane".

Captain, "Oh, okay. I sure am glad it was just a tire, because it can be dangerous if a wheel comes off with it".

F.O., "Yeah, those scabs are doing a great job, now if we could only get all these damn flashing red lights to go out..."

Couldn't this fine reporter at least have gotten the tail or flight number of this aircraft during her interview with the "shop workers"?

There is an on going strike and the scab maintenance allowed a tire to fall off an aircraft and all the story gets is three lame sentences from a third world 10th rate reporter?

ringmaruf, you're a bigger joke than the reporter and paper that wrote this for bringing this crap to this board.

Just maybe our famous slum cruiser has some new insight.

Moderator if someone can't come up with anything better than this bogus report on this topic, I think its out lived its shelf life
