Seems like Delta is offering half its employees severance. Will American and other airlines offer their respective employees some kind of buyout ala the auto industry? What will it take for you to say goodbye....? 🙄

No need to speculate. It ain't gonna happen. The work groups that would probably be cut are all unionized. The company will simply furlough as needed. Especially for us flight attendants. Since the APFA gave up furlough pay in the RPA, it costs the company nothing other than Unemployment Insurance--which has already been paid--to furlough flight attendants.

I disagree, everything and anything is on the table. A furlough would cut heads, unless planes get parked this isn't an option. Lowering payroll by getting rid of higher paid topped out employees and bringing in lower paid bottom scale is a possibility while still maintaining the route structure and not shrinking. I believe this is possible TWU ranks. One thing is for sure, allot of senior, retirement age people see this as a possibility and are taking the "wait and see" and soon it's going to start costing them to stay, i.e. best of the last 60.

I have 17 years as a flight attendant. I would leave in a nano-second if the offer seemed reasonable to me. What is reasonable? How about 10-12 r/t passes per year anywhere in our system for me and my dependants, and accrued retirement and retirement flying at 67? Buy-out? I would take 1/2 years pay, 20-25K? Maybe less.....

On these cheap fare overbooked flights, your "passes" would be all but worthless, unless you were just flying back and forth to Pacoima to see your Aunt Fanny! You get the idea.

None of you are thinking correctly. Ok, say after me slowly, "I work for AMR Corporation." You are forgetting "Pull Together, Win Together." If the company needs to eliminate higher-paid, senior employees, then for the good of the company, you should just quit without them having to bribe you to do it. If enough of you cooperate, it might even mean a special bonus for the executives.

I still don't think it will happen. First off, we are not in dire financial straits (yet). We can ride out the high fuel cost storm for awhile. I think we will see schedule reductions on marginal routes and the parking of some S80s first.

No question parking airplanes is going to happen. They will follow Delta and United who has annouced they are parking aiplanes in the very near future.

Between the pilot shortage, fuel costs, and negotiations, I believe a furlough is right around the corner. The extension was sold for no guarantees.

No question about it. If you think about it, we are 8 years down the road from the start of the last downturn. Granted, the industry has not recovered to the highs of the late 90's, but true to the cycle, here it comes again. I feel for the people that have recently returned to the airline.

Dream on... i took the early out back 12 years ago and they cut my travels passes after 10 years...... so don't let AA fool you.

They made a contract with you for early out then backed-out after ten years . . . and you let them?

Sounds to me like AA did more than fool you. Unless of course, the deal they struck with you to get you out the door allowed them to make such changes. But even if it did . . . fool again!

It'll never happen, but if the company offered a five and five you would see a literal stampede out of this place.
I cant see a stampede. You will see the ones who dont want the hassle anymore, and the ones with something already on the side say SEE YA. Most others talk a big game but are not in a position in the short term to take something and leave. That was predicted with the 777 staffing payout. No stampede there, not even a trickle.
