Will American offer its employees any "packages"?

No question parking airplanes is going to happen. They will follow Delta and United who has annouced they are parking aiplanes in the very near future.
Oh that is for sure.... we will see that coming very soon. It's the next move in this airline game.

<_< -------- Furloughs? Weren't we talking about recalls just a couple weeks ago? Only in the Airline Industry do you see such swings in mood! If the people who were just recalled, get furloughed, I feel next time their needed, they just won't be there!------- And rightfully so!!!

Did Article 30(A) go away in the RPA (early retirement at 45 for FA's with 20 years == 10 RT's a year plus cash)????

Given the option of cash or passes for 10 years, I would have taken the passes in a heartbeat, even with the higher load factors...

The need for change is real. To deny that would be foolish. The problem with what Delta is doing is that they define insanity. They repeat the same mistake over and over and expect a different outcome. Good people take these packages and then they have to rush to backfill the positions they didn't want to lose people from. To do that, they need to pay somebody more than what they were paying the last person. As a result they don't get the propotional cuts they need in actual cost but try to show on paper that they made the move. In the case of AA and others who lay people off, they do cut what needs to be cut to minimize the loses. It's unfortunately crappy for some, but necessary for those remaining. It is amazing that just a short time ago there was talk of recalls as has been mentioned...

I don't see anything happening either. If they did offer anything, it would probably not be enticing enough for anyone. Just think about it, you can have 35 years seniority, fly two trips out of Chicago, get almost a full month pay. To offset all this flying, you can call in sick at least once a year, and fanagle (sp?) your vacation to get you two months off. this leaves you working approximately 9months at 6 days each....that is about 54 days of flying per year.... retire? nah fuggetaboutit!
Damn....I sound like JiminTX 😱

Seriously, this represents a small percentage of our workforce, they leave by death or disability only. The rest of us can only hope and pray for an early out (or their death or disability  )

It is still available. Unfortunately for myself I am a still a few years short, or I would grab that.

I think the only "PACKAGE" the company will offer the employees is the one that is sometimes slangly substituted for the male anatomy.

or the one that fills a baby's diaper.Phee-uw!

I dont see any packages either. The Vietnam era guys are approaching retirement and they have to leave before 2011 because if they stay longer their penions will be cut thanks to the best 4 out of the last 10 rule. 2001 was our highest base pay year and if they dont go then who knows how long they would have to stay to get back up to that.

In fact I think the airline industry is going to have a problem staffing, consolidation of the industry will be the quick fix to that but not a long term remedy.

If anything they would rather have the senior people stay since starting pay even at the flex rate is not high enough to attract qualified mechanics and not low enough to make a package pay off and if they stay they get to screw them for the rest of their lives on the pension. Those who stay on would have less years to collect and they would collect at a lower rate! Only with the TWU would you see something like this!!!

Heck, the top pay was not even high enough to entice most of us on layoff to accept recall. Wait until they try to attract new AMT's, fresh out of school or otherwise.

Bob, if only that were true we might have some leverage in negotiations. The truth is that all they have to do is run a big ad in the paper that says 'Airline Hiring! No experience required! Get free travel to anywhere AA flies! Apply at American Airlines Center Dallas!"

The next morning there would be a line crossing the parking lot twice of people waiting to get in and apply.

I'll join you on the chorus! And, it's not even the ones flying part-time (your illustration) that bother me. It's the ones who don't/won't fly AT ALL yet won't retire either that make me crazy. What are they holding on to? The hope that the 24-hour layovers in New York City will come back? (P.S., you got one two many "i's" in my handle. Watch that in the future. 😱 )

<_< ------ That may be the case for F/A's, but not necessarily for the youngsters coming out of Spartan ( A&P school in TUL) with their new A&P licenses in hand and student loans to pay off! Last time I checked, it was costing in excess of $20,000 for an eighteen month course! And I believe that was about five years ago. Or Embry Riddel in Daytona Beach, Florida, which would be a lot more!

That may be, but if the airlines are the only ones hiring, what are you going to do with a brand-new a/c mechanics license--regardless of how much you think you OUGHT to be making? Those expensive diplomas gotta be paid for somehow.

But thery arent. Other industries routinely recruit at A&P schoools because they get people who are familiar with many differnt systems such as pneumatic, hydraulic and electric. We even had a few guys with around 20 years quit and go to ConEd(the NYC electric utility).

As far as the long lines responding to a hiring call the question is how many of those that would be desperate for an airline job are capable, drug free, felony free and have a 10year verifyable past? When you figure that around around 17 million people are unemployed and around 30 million are felons there's a good chance that most of those that would show up would not be eligible to be employed on the airport.
