Will US AIRWAYS outbid Southwest for AirTran?

I don't like the livery of either airline. AT ALL ! ! ! ! AA's looks old and US? Well what else can I say but "SWOOOOSH".

Airtran brings no value to USAirways. USAirways needs to merge with one of the majors. Airtran and SW are a good fit because they both have similar business models .
Agree. AirTran does little for USAirways. The only other carrier that would benefit from combining with Airtran would be AA (but why bother going head-to-head with Delta in ATL), or Frontier (they have more than enough to digest with their previous acquisitions). I do NOT see SW and AirTran as a good fit personally but crazier things have happened. Funny how the Fed's worried about market overlap in the long ago US/UAL Affair but will suddenly turn a blind eye to TOTAL Market Dominance in BWI and MCO by the 'enlarged' SWA. The More I see, the more I am convinced the Fed's are FOS right up to their lying collective arsces.

Your so right Astro. The same rules obviously do not apply to true LCC's for some unknown reason. The figures change, stipulations are lifted and blind eyes turned to the DC area airports and MCO. WN will have something like 27 slots in LGA coupled with the slots gained from the "new" UA in EWR? Even when i suggested the possibilities months ago about US and B9 I was told on here that the combined company would have too much market in the NY area between LGA and JFK. Hmmm funny how DL, AA and B9 can have such a large presence in JFK with sizeable operations in LGA. Talk about US getting the business end of the stiff stick. 🙄

US brings little value to a major i.e. DL UA CO NW lest they think so

Obviously we brought a lot less than everyone else or US wouldn't be listening to the sound of crickets while everyone else gets married or is on their honeymoon.

Actually, the problem is that US brings a lot more baggage as well. Unfortunately, it's the only type of baggage that they haven't managed to lose.

A B9/US merger would shift B9 to *Alliance, which would make sense given Lufthansa's investment in B9.

Besides, WN will only have 2 gates to play with.

The two gates you mentioned have been remarked for DL to use between Airtran flights if their gates on the north side of A become conjested...I wonder if DL will pull any stunts and claim they need use of A6 & 8 anytime soon....

In my imagination, United/Continental would have acquired AirTran to replace US in the SE if US were to leave Star.

Southwest seems to have picked up AirTran rather cheaply and if they succeed they will also pick up a key southern hub. What will US AIRWAYS response be??? Will US have to protect CLT?

What are the options?

US Airways response is in the icon logo, or whatever U call it...the white flag
What does a white flag say about protecting anything? nuf sed 😛

B6/US can't happen unless Sen. Schumer is retiring. NYers have seen Empire devoured by US Air. We thought B6 would eventually follow the same fate. Instead Happy 10th to jetBlue! B)

B6 was NY's anti-US. It would be political suicide to give a US Air yet another airline victory at the expense of NY!

I still vote for a US and Hawaiian Airlines merger! HAL is expanding to the pacific with upgrading its fleet to A330 AC. With similar AC imagine flying AC equipment from Europe to PHL to PHX to HNL to SYD or say Japan. That would make us more of a game player hell throw in B6 in the mix and we can kick ass....Screw AA it will be a labor workers blood bath....
