Alas, I have given up all hope for a non-stop between Austin and south Florida.

Does anyone know if there will be any new routes using some of the 11 738's starting this winter, or will it be a 1:1 MD-80 replacement?

Don't, because it is coming.

Although until then Southwest and JetBlue start FLL-AUS in a few weeks.

It will be 1:1, but the 738s will be used to boost international flying. The removed S80s mean less domestic capacity.

I'd be surprised if it were on a 1:1 basis.

738's could be phased in on a 2:3 or 3:4 basis (four MD80's grounded for every three 738's).

Maybe, We were told in ORD that they would be used for ORD-West Coast flying. I am guessing LAX then SFO first, then probably SAN and SEA. Hard to tell, could change many times before then.

They will not be used at ORD. ORD sees no 738s, and they won't see them anytime soon. It saves millions annually in maintenance by not flying 738s to ORD, and therefore not having to have O'Hare equipped to handle the aircraft. It also saves in scheduling cost by "isolating" the aircraft out of Chicago. They aren't about to change that now, when they need to save money more than eve.

The 738s will be used almost exclusively to boost Miami-Latin America/Caribbean. That is where the money is right now with the way fuel prices are. Why fly block a 738 for 4h10m to fly ORD-LAX, when it can fly MIA-MAR, a route that commands more than double the average fare, in 2h40m?

Look for lot's of new 738 routes from Miami south. MIA-GEO and MIA-CTG, for example, are very likely for November, as are MIA-FDF and MIA-PTP.

AA will be in Guyana next week touring the airport in Georgetown and hoping to finalize a deal.

The news about SW and JetBlue starting service from FLL to AUS is music to my ears. I just hope it doesn't discourage AA from starting service between MIA and AUS. Thanks for the good word.

Well STL loses some AX flights June 1st.CLT ATL PHL MKE TUL CMH BDL BWI BNA SGF all lose 1 flight and ATL loses 2.Ahh must be that darn fuel bill.

Is there even a remote chance that PVD could be considered for a MIA flight? PVD has some good demographics that would feed the MIA south network (GUA, SDQ/POP/STI, Columbia, etc.) as well as the typically strong New England leisure traffic to warm destinations.

I hear what you are saying, BUT our base manager told us they are coming. So maybe your informant at AA isn't that far in the know with stuff non MIA. Now she could have gotten old info as well.

I'm my own "informant."

The information you have is wrong. No 738s to ORD. Can that change? Of course, especially given the industry's current turbulence. As of now, it is not happening.

AmericanConnection flying is not being reduced; it is just being transferred from the money-losing STL ops to Miami starting 01JUN08.

That is NOT good news for STL from a commuter standpoint. We have a number of f/as who commute out of BNA, ATL, and TUL.

Yeah, I know our base manager has zero knowledge of stuff AA-ORD in your world. I just go by what she is told and then relays to us. I also meant that they were coming in 2009 when we start getting new deliveries. Which is once again what we were told by AA management. Plus, do you even work for AA? I have no problem being wrong, but I have no reason to not believe what we are told in base meetings and emails regarding this topic.
