WN ANNONCES CUTBACK IN PHL FLIGHTS

We can't even beat them on PIT-PHL where it's a focus city(barely) to our "crown jewel". THEY unlike us know how to run a tighter operation and don't usually stick around in markets where it's hard to make dough.

WE all knew this was going to happen sooner or later. WN of course will never say that US beat them out. they will say something like no gates atc.. blah blah blah. but they wont say is the the city of PHL promised them the world if US went out of biz. and it didnt happen. so now they are cutting back with that LUV tail between their fuselage... US AT PHL RULES...

RULES WHAT? A SIMPLE 60MIN FLT FROM PHL TO CAK, RIC, OR PVD AND PHL CANT GET THE BAGS LOADED WHEN A PAX CKS IN 90MINS PRIOR. TWO RAINDROPS AND 3HR GROUNDSTOPS ARE INITIATED. TRY CALLING A PHL MGR..VOICEMAIL BOXES ARE FULL. YEAH WE RULE ALL RIGHT BETWEEN PHL AND OUR EXPRESS OPERATORS WE RULE QUITE A BIT......

Because US has reduced capacity on PIT-PHL while WN has added it.

Full flights don't mean a damn thing in terms of profitability.

Well let's see they fly 737-300's and 737-700's all day while we fly Dash8's, emb170's-175's and crj in between only what three mainline jets? We are barely competing with them.

US needed to reduce capacity between PIT and PHL. Most of what it has been carrying is FAs non-rev to work. No money there.
 
Southwest not so long ago added yet another flight between PIT and PHL. I'd say the business MUST be there.

Average fare on WN is $77 in the latest quarter (4Q06) according to the DOT*. They are also the largest carrier(but I'm guessing not by much) with 49.94% of traffic. All that in less than two years! Who da thunk?

While I will agree they need some international partners to strengthen their FF program, domestically it kicks US's ass, especially on short-hauls. Someone flying PHL-CHI regularly will receive two awards on WN before they get one on US, and will be on their way to their third award.

After 30 or so years southwest is all of the sudden running with their "tail between their legs"? I hardly doubt it. Even in PHX where we are big we don't go head to head with southwest. We "hold our own" but dont beat them out on anything that I can think of. We can't even beat them on PIT-PHL where it's a focus city(barely) to our "crown jewel". They are cutting service but also adding more flights than they are cutting in other markets. Just moving a/c it seems to me. YEP Usairways is a "force to be reckoned with". 🙄 :lol:

Don't forget United ran them out on the LAX and OAK run from BWI... We have movies and radio and first class and bigger planes on 757 going to west coast. Maybe United will add back the 767 from bwi to lax now

Actually, the commuters are willing to pay for a real seat that arrives close to on time as opposed to a jump seat same day (sometimes) service.

Your "opinion" certainly seems rather narrow-minded.

WE LUV YOU BUT WE WILL LEAVE YOU... well guess what thats what they are saying to PHL .. when you ELIMINATE nonstop service from PHL-LAX service then it just tells you that PHL is not working for WN. they add service from PHL-PIT oh ma that big i heard from a friend at WN that the PIT-BWI service is a big joke

What are you smoking? WN is eliminating long haul service across their system - not just from PHL. They are repositioning aircraft from long haul flights to increase the overall number of flights they operate - so PHL is actually going to gain in the total number of WN flights - as is BWI. This has nothing to do with PHL not working for WN or US chasing WN out of PHL - get a grip on reality if you believe that.
