sky high states: Imagine that. You can fly from New York to Florida for $69.00 one way. Or you can take a TAXI from Downtown New York to the Airport for $40.00 plus tip.
Or drive to Florida and pay over $50.00 bucks in roadway tolls.

only stating opinions.

Talk about Pricing Power. My Wife has a job that requires travel between EWR & ORD. Because of Corprate Contracts, her fare in this market is below the Airline Costs. She has a choice to fly either UAL or AA and the fares are normally the same give or take a buck or two. This weeks Ticket Price was a TOTAL ( Fare + Taxes + Security Fees ) of $108.00 Round Trip. This works out to roughly $30.00 each way. HOW can Airlines make the money off this fare? And it was only booked Five Days in Advance. Last Minute Travel is often $150 RT.

I'm all for regulation if it ensures a safe industry run by professionals and not carpetbagger ceo's. Something's gotta give with this out of control CEO pay leaving the slaves to pay to work here.

as far as "Dance Partners" I have always believed a pairing with UA or NW made the most sense and Delta or AA the least. If these Management teams are truly serious about cost cutting and "Merging" operations why would you even look elsewhere.....fleet types/Hubs/route systems and stronger competition SHOULD be the GOAL of a Merger. US is a good match for UA or NW. Any other partner: AA,DL or CO would see severe cutbacks, loss of jobs and services and strictly a maneuver to cut out another competitor. Mergers CAN be a GOOD THING if done with sense. US and Delta looked bad on Day One and still does.

I find it funny how Parker/Lakefield touted the US HP merger as an awesome pair due to a lot of fleet commonality (minus the bus engines), route overlap was minimal and the labor costs were not the same but VERY similar. Now all of the sudden all of this MASSIVE overlap and basically nonexistent fleet commonality means nothing? The DL US merger is bad on so many points. Besides some of the union unrest at NW and to a lesser degree US a merger would seem much more rational. You'd have very little overlap with complimentary hubs for the most part and great fleet commonality besides the 757 engines. Well I don't know what will happen but I'd say NW all the way and let DL find a better partner. No hard feelings to either side. Our management team has their heads up their A$$ES.

NW anyday. Better route structure and an employee group that's not living in the past century.

Can we just forget any merger ? We, that is HP/US, are no more closer to being one airline than we were 14 months ago.

I want us to spend money on making us the BEST airline, not the largest!!! There is sooooo much potential being pisssed away with strange visions of grandeur.

I can't believe we continue to go after a company that doesn't want us to take them over. I do not believe in HOSTILE takeovers. Although they have gotten personal, I can't blame them for being hostile. You get BACK what you put OUT!! Does Doug REALLY think if he DID win out, the Delta employees would warm up?

Mergers are difficult enough with "friendly" dealings. A US/DL merger would make US/PI look like a tea party.

As far as NWA? Only if the two airlines are shaking hands in agreement.

I can tell you this when the us/piedmont merger took place most of the folks at PI were very hostile toward the merger. When working side by side on the front line they would make nasty commets about US and say how better PI was etc in front of customers. I did say something to them and the reply was "are you a US lover?" I said no and I m not a US hater I really don t care what logo is behind me as long as I get my paycheck and benefits they can call it ---hole Airlines. I may not agree with some polices and procedures, but it s what I m getting paid for. PLease understand not all PI folks felt this way some had not so nice comments either. Oh by the way I worked for DL for year in the 60s not too great to work for. For those curious I m orig PS retired early 2001. Good luck to all of you. DL really showing their true colors.

Hmmm, it is a interesting combination, but one that would be frought with a whole lotta labor issues. (see Republic merger)

Memphis would be toast, PIT would probably shrink even further.

And I cannot say I'd be a huge fan of flying Pratt powered 747's, but that Cargo business they have is real profitable...

I'd say YES to merging with NW, as long as we can keep their Web Site! That would be the number 1 thing for merging, a decent web site.

Oh well, I guess I can get back to my dream. 😱
