Rumors are circulating on flyertalk.com that an F/A informed a pax that the 757s are going to be increased to 16 F seats. Apparently the 8 F seats haven't been a big hit..... Duh!

Any truth to this? And details on it?

He heard it from an F/A? Sounds like a reliable source to me! Better go back and see what Nostradamus said!

I, too, would be surprised if an F/A were the first to leak such a decision by the powers that be.

Perhaps this is something that would come under consideration as part of an overall fleet decision on F/C, but I can't imagine that there would be a decision to change just the 757s so soon after CCY made the decision to focus these aircraft on leisure destinations and stuff them with as many coach seats as possible.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this same topic was discussed on the boards weeks ago. I commented at that time that I had flown the 8 F/A configuration and had a few US1's and 2's sitting right behind and they were miserable and very unhappy with the new set up. They had contacted CCY to express their displeasure.

Also, from a F/A perspective it is worse. They took out the closet at the 2R door which really cuts down on space for hanging garments and there is at least one overhead gone to put rollerboards in.

If they do go back to 16 seats, this will been a total waste of money...AGAIN.

Any updates/confirmation to this? If true, what's the timeline?

Every single Chairman's Liaison I speak with tells me that they will in fact reconfigure the 757's to at least 16F as it is supposedly a requirement of the Star Alliance. A US Club concierge told me the same thing this morning as well.

So what did this failed experiment cost them--both in labor to reconfigure twice AND lost goodwill of Preferred customers?

Time will tell--- it's so absurd I bet they DO do it.

My best to you all...

Deb's "Your Fault" Attache column had an opportunity to announce something positive on the subject this month but she choose to defend the F8 configuration instead.

It makes too much sense so I don't expect to see it happen.

If this is true, is there any employee that is really suprised? That has been one of the largest problems with USAirway, management never makes quality decisions. But expects the rank and file to go along with bonus/raises so that we can retain our quality management. "Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing."

there is talk that its because of star alliance . that star requires a min of 12 seats in first class. don't know if thats true or not. i beleive united has 8 seats in first on their 737's and a319's . i might be wrong but i think thats what i counted when i flew them last

There is no requirement by the Star Alliance to have a minimum of first class seats. Several members have no first class at all.

The origional reconfig was a stupid, stupid idea. CCY might as well have eliminated FC completely, and used them for trans-Atlantic flights. It's like taking a nice luxury jet and turning it into a frickin bus.

It really wouldn't surprise me if the plane was re-reconfigured -- remember, they blew $50M on the aformentioned "Business Select Seating." I hightly doubt that it has to do with any * considerations, but rather listening to VFFs. I for one have complained, and now avoid the US757 like the plague.
