US IAM Fleet Service topic 9/23-

Have those folks in PHX been notified that they are bumpable?

It must be more than 10 positions in PHX being "bumpable". As I understand it, there are over 130 FT people in LAS who are being furloughed with between 3 - 10 years of seniority and it isn't hard to find a good number full-time fleet service people in PHX with less than 3 years. I know the list is from the bottom of the system wide list, but given PHX does not have the seniority of most East stations (more people on the bottom of the list subject to being bumped), its proximity to LAS (increased demand), it being one of the larger stations (more people to be bumped), it would appear that more of PHX fleet would be subject to being bumped than just 10 people. Much has to do with the number of open positions system wide and the number of people willing to make the move too.

So Awaits Jester.

Jester,

Take the number 10 to the casino and bet on it. PHX has not hired full-time in a year while PHL, CLT and DCA etc. have hired numerous people. Look at the global seniority list and the first PHX name you will see is around 50 from the bottom.

Yes, I'm ex-TWU leadership and am on the GC. I'm sure PHX will tell you that I fight for everyone including part-time. I've got 23 years here and started organizing for a Union in the early 90's. No problems here.

This is correct...I personally know 2 parttimers in phx that P.Rez represented on the last Grievance meeting and was able to win there case. The GC here is doing there job and fighting for all.

"I know when I work LAS flights the bags are actually separated within the bins by CONX and Locals, and yes, even stacked with the tags facing out, and the bin nets are up too! It can be done!"

So Evaluates Jester.

I thought I was done posting here, but I had to respond to this. I know it's off the furlough topic, but here goes...
As a displaced Westie, I have now had the pleasure/displeasure of seeing both sides of the bin stacking story. I must say, now that I am in CLT, working LAS and PHX or any flights from the west coast, those flights are loaded like crap. And trust me, as a new face in CLT I get sent to the LAS PHX SFO flights with regularity, and they are all the same. Junk loaded. Sad sad sad. STOP THE MADNESS!

So disagrees DIOMK

doing it, welcome to Clt & nice finally meeting you.

With that said heard 4 packets went out today (Tues) to tower folks & according to one of the shift managers 8 packets were given. He wasn't sure if they were all Fleet.

I will say though, in all fairness, CLT amd PHL would probably really appreciate it if we separated express from mainline connecting bags like we're supposed to but this is rarely rarely ever done. Also PHX doesn't zone load. I would say that compared to two years ago the offloads from PHL- and CLT-PHX have been a lot easier.

I fondly remember a CLT inbound where the front bin of a 321 was stacked with a single layer of bags from the door all the way to the back with the gate checks against the firewall. It was actually pretty funny.

And what's the deal with these Mexican destinations? 90% of those are stacked with the bags backwards.

CJ try bags from the islands they are all like that

Awaits no longer Jester,

As you should understand it, as non-thinkers should also understand it, you
could make a short trip to Admin. and look at that seniority list that is updated
every Jan. and July. You would be able to form an intelligent estimation
of where the openings would be. Of course there would need to be an
adjustment for Fleet hired between Jul. and Nov., that hiring was done
primarily in CLT.

Will you be moving to the east? MCO might have an opening for ya.

"You love me! You love me! You REALLY do love me!" -- Sally Fields

After I dab the tears of joy from eyes, and update my avatar with my new picture as provided by the gracious, Mr. Rat Tales, I shall totter over to Admin and peruse the system wide seniority list, but alas, no transfer to Mouse House for me as no furloughs from PHX.

So Appreciates Jester.

Mr. REZ,

And I would take that bet... after beating a path in my bell-ladened slippers to Admin, I discovered there were 45 full-time PHX in the bottom 150 on the system wide July 2009 seniority list (that's only an April 2008 DOH cut-off). LAS alone has 130 full-time furloughs with 3+ years seniority, not counting whatever number of furloughed full-timers in other stations. In addition, using elf and majic, I ascertained the bottom 100 on the list had 19 PHX full-time positions. It is possible new hires between July 2009 and today might throw off the numbers some, but probably not enough.

My droogs in LAS are telling me within the furlough packet there are 7 stations listed with full-time vacancies which should save some from being "Junioritized", but the total number of vacant positions are a mystery. Between the unknown number of vacant positions and the number who are willing to make the move will determine how many in PHX get actually bumped, but be assured, there is more than the 10 at-risk as you promised. As Las Vegas is suffering a 13% unemployment rate, I am sure the majority are willing to pack-up and hit US95 south.

So Handicaps Jester.

Could anyone (fleet) tell us what stations were listed on those packets?

BTW, they don't, and won't, tell you the number of vacant positions. Only the ones with secret decoder rings know that.
