I see from the post, that there is a long way for us to go. We are starting a new airline made up of 4. This airline just happens to carry the name of US AIRWAYS. We all want what is best for us and that is going to that a little give and take from all. The pilots and flight attendants from both airlines work under the same unions. It is the maintenance group that I see having to combine two unions IBT/IAM into one and which one will represent the whole. From what I have read the IAM has give up a lot (PAY, sick time, holidays, vacation time, …) that all we have left is seniority. I have read on the IBT web that they will give us DOH. Do we want to live under a contract that goes tell 2009 plus or go with IBT that is in the middle of contract negotiation now. I see increases in (Pay, Vacation, Sick time, Holidays, and better Health care) with IBT. RUMORS have it that only 1in 20 that have been offer a recall have come back and LAX all but 1(a lead) has signed IBT cards. There is going to be a lot of give and take on this. Some sight for you.

One thing you must keep in mind is that both unions are only intrested in dues money. I was teamsters with PSA but only for a short time. We had a decent contract I thought. Not as much money but other perks that were good. ie. 4 day work week, Med, vision, sick and vacation. The iam at U gave us a raise in base pay and had similar perks but not quite as good.

Today things are different. The money and benefits are fairly equal between the two with the edge to HP. But the iam has a better scope agreement. At least for now. We have the narrow body Airbus heavy check. Not to say that couldn't be wiped out. But as long as we have that work it keeps more people employed. Seeing how U is more senior that could have an effect on the junior employee's. Believe me when I say I have no love for the iam. They will sell us out to keep a few dues payers on the books. But I think the ibt would do the same.

All of us must decide what is best for today. Don't look to far ahead because this industry is on a downhill slide when it comes to a career in aviation. Exec compensation and the bottom line give way to everything else including safety. It's the world of greyhound bus airlines. The End

I'm retired (thank goodness), but I can't help but add my feelings. I can't imagine anyone being worse than IAM. And 700, don't tell me I was the union.... we've discussed that before. I would just as soon have no representation as IAM representation. Good luck to you all.
