Any mechanics out there hear about parking some 757's due to heavy corrosion in the tail section? Mechanic friend was just telling me about it.

No, didn't hear that; however, the union boys came in to let us know the the company was going to farm out 4 757 heavy checks to TIMCO and Dallas is losing the 737 B check. The company wants to move it to SFO. Turns out, Don V has known about this for weeks. Our local was just informed on Thursday afternoon. TWU says they will fight it; well, ya'll know how that will go.

With representation like Fat Don V, NO "union" would be preferable to what we have now. This guy seems to have forgotten what he's supposed to be doing on our dime.

You know AA is still paying the lease on the superhangers at MCI that are empty why not move that work there rather than outsource?

Woudn't that be too much like an admission of something or another they don't want to admit to?
It wouldn't be admittiing to anything just open the dam place back up get the people out on the system commuteing back to MCI with there families if they want to go back keep the airplanes in house it's that simple. This would free up all kinds of opening's out iin the sytem for the rest of the blue bloods.

Many bids on the boards are going unfilled. I don't think they have the manpower to spare from Tulsa. Any stations with surplus? The timing just doesn't seem to right to be opening up remote lines.

Open a base for four airplanes?

no not true I work heavy C and no heavy corrosion in the tail

<_< ------- Four 757's, and how many 737's? Or hasn't your wonderful TWU told you about them, yet?
TULE is going to be the 737 base. But I do not see why the 757 could not be done at MCI. However as the Airbus arrives, there will be a one for one swap with the 757's.

Phat Parm - OUT overhaul PLEASE

So we can LINE - up with the industry.

Why would you re-open MCI to handle the 757 when:

1) that's what AFW was built for
2) the 757s are slated for replacement (the oldest are already 22 years old)

Sending B checks to the west coast probably makes sense, since they'll be appearing more and more on transcons.

In your dreams. Bob is not lying about the shortage of qualified AMT's. Have you looked at the job openings at Timco, just one of the major MRO's? Did you happen to notice how long it took AA to find a vendor (Timco in Florida?) to do the 75's, and at what cost?

I agree with you that Bob Owens is not lying about the current shortage of stateside AMTs. I disagree with Bob when he writes that higher pay for line mechanics would have no difference in the enrollment rates at the schools. In my view, if AA's line mechanics could achieve $45 to $50/hr, more young people would be encouraged to enroll, especially if UA and DL were forced to pay those wages to line mechanics. Inevitably, enrollment numbers would exceed demand, and the lower-paying MROs would find plenty willing to settle for today's Tulsa wages (or less).

With nearly 7 billion people on the planet, there's no shortage of hands willing to work in airplane chop shops somewhere in the third world. That's why domestic overhaul will never be paid UPS or WN wages. Heavy checks don't sneak up on the airline the way overnight problems do, so the location of the work can be controlled (unlike line maintenance). If only those airplanes weren't so darned mobile.
