Do you mechanics think the IAM even understands the importance of being compensated for your licenses?

I really doubt they even have a clue. Hopefully all who are not compensated for both licenses will be watching what they sign off in the future. In the future will could be no better than Mobile with the majority of persons working in overhaul being unlicensed mechanics.

All the IAM cares about is it's Fleet Service people, our IAM reps. in PHL even told us so !!!

Don't worry because if the Company proposal passes those remaining in Mechanic&Related will be represented by another union in the near future. Persons on the floor are not very happy with the IAM right now. Mainly its the poor communication to the membership.

The fleet folks in the 21 'to be outsourced' and dozen or so 'already outsourced' stations would beg to differ.

Here is how the mechanics made out at UAL with AMFA. They too had to negotiate under the same BK rules that the "Farting Machinist" were forced to follow. As you can see the mechanics made out much better than the mech's at u s airways.

Also, the utility got a 3 years phaseout compared to a two week notice the mighty IAM got for their members. The mechanics will get to keep their license and skill premiums along with raises in base pay. When was the last time the IAM got anyone a raise, except for themselves of course? Compare what you got stuck with to what UAL mechs got and decide which one you would have wanted.

Duration: 1-1-05 to 12-31-09 What?

1. If new tentative agreement not reached by 8-1-2009 then both parties will jointly invoke mediation services of the National Mediation Board.

2. 5% base wage cut for mechanics

3. No 4% temporary wage cuts for mechanics or utility

4. 10% base hourly wage cut for utility

5. Outsource utility employees based on three-year phase out schedule

6. Permanent waiver of Article II-F for 747/777 offshore HMV/OSV

7. Allow outsourcing of all Computer Technician (CT) work.

8. Allow outsourcing of all fueling work

9. No change to the current Health and Welfare benefits

10 1.5% base wage raises on January 1 of each year from 2006 through 2009.

11. Shift, skill, and license premiums increased by 1.5% on January 1 of each year from 2006 through 2009.

12. Overtime pay rates 2x reduced to 1.5x

13. Holiday overtime rate 2.5x reduced to 2x

14. Vacation accrual left unchanged for mechanics

15. Vacation accrual for utility: 0-4 years – 10 days; 5 years and greater – 15 days

16.Holidays reduced from 10 to 6; fixed holidays at the base and floating on the line; fixed holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day

17. Sick leave paid at 75%; five or more consecutive sick days qualifies for whole day vacation backfill

18. Sick leave paid at 100% in the event of catastrophic illness or injury requiring absence of 15 or more consecutive days with satisfactory medical certification

19.Enhanced severance package for utility and computer technician employees

20. Reduce Success Sharing percentage and grant related credit to reduce other wage and benefit cuts.

21 Success Sharing percentage phases back to 100% by 2009

22.Protection date (94-5M) 10-30-89 stands

I agree, it seems as the mechanics&related have gone from having one of the better contracts in the industry to having the worst!!!! Due to the fact that the IAM listened to their members and kept the stand closed may not have helped but that is what the majority(including myself) wanted them to do. I just have a problem with the lack of communication the leadership has with their members!!!

AP TECH says" In the future will could be no better than Mobile with the majority of persons working in overhaul being unlicensed mechanics. "

How uniformed you are about folks who work for an MRO. What do consider a majority of mechanics working MRO's give us a number please???? Are you so much BETTER a mechanice than the next guy who works for that MRO? Because USAIR management and many other air line management teams are sending their highly qualified mechanics to the street. Who in turn go to the MRO still carrying those A&P licenses.

All you legacy guys that have been at your company for years and PROBABLY the ONLY company that you have worked at don't have a clue what majority of MRO's work un-licensed mechanics. I've been to two and neither hired people to work on the aircraft who didn't have an A&P. If you worked sheetmetal you had to at least have no less that the A license to do that work. Don't throw stones AP TECH, with the mechanics cuts to still continue at USAIR you could be the next guy your brothers at USAIR will be bad mouthig.

Ahh Mrfish, let me show you about ST MAE from the FAA database.

Singapore Technologies Mobile Aerospace
Airport ID: BFM
Physical Location:
2100 NINTH STREET
BROOKLEY COMPLEX
MOBILE , AL 36615

Personnel:
Certificated Mechanics: 532
Repairmen: 74
Non-Certificated Mechanics: 1173
Total Employees: 1776

Looks like a over 2 to 1 margin of UNLICENSED mechanics to me.

AP TECh,

As an example, see for yourself. Send those MRO's a resume with NO A&P license or an FCC listed and see how many of them send you an application back. Let me know the results. I bet you won't even get a bite!!!!!!

Mrfish,

Read my previous post, you are incorrect.

Read 700’s post, you brain surgeon.

I am a A&P and I left and I sure as hell didn't go to one of those scab butcher shops you re bragging about. I know ton of A&P guys and most are not even considering continuing in the aviation field with U being more than enough for a lifetime.

You dont' need an A&P to work in a back shop!!!!! We'll see deano when the un-employment runs out just what you'll stoop to! There are alot of mechanics with just as much talent working the MRO's, so don't toot your horns to loud. The reason things get whipped in the MRO is becuase your company rep signed it off so USAIR won't have to spend the money and you know that. Besides, I have seen just as many screw ups come from the majors as they do at the MRO's. But alas this will NEVER be a settled issue as long as you think your better and less prone to mistakes as your other A&P brethren.
