AA 737 IFE ?

I noticed on AA.com they show this plane has video screens throughout the cabin. On 3 hrs flights do they use these? I know Delta does but I was curious about AA

Sure - you'll see some tv programming, maybe a movie.

They used to have movies on the LAX-BDL trips. Doubt there's much of that anymore, since they're not flying the quasi-transcons anymore. Now it's the canned CBS programming.

The TV stuff can be dreadful at times.... You're better off bringing along an iPod or PSP for entertainment. I keep a half dozen movies on my iPod, plus my music. Converting a DVD for iPod isn't too difficult if you don't want to buy them off iTunes. Well worth the money, plus you get to use it on any airline you fly on, in the car, the hotel, etc...

If you really want a cheap set of headphones, walk over to a Jetblue gate. They have an honor box where you can buy either buds or over the ear headphones for a buck or two. At that price, it doesn't piss me off as much if they break or I leave them in a seat back pocket.

I was on one of the 738's and was wondering why in gods name they opted for those 1980's style mounted tube TV's instead of the flip down LCD that other carriers use (especially on the A319/320's)?

I know CO and DL's 737NG's have the LCD's flip down screens. AA's NG's are flip downs as well I believe, but the last time I did a 737-800 on AA was two years ago and it was a red-eye LAX-IAD, so I didn't pay much attention. All I cared about was the arm poking me in the kidneys in the 2nd row of Emergency seats at the window. The are could have either been longer or no arm there.

I wish AA would have put wider seats in the Boeings (minus the 777). Every other airline, according to SeatGuru, has 18'' wide seats on their 737's, 757's, 767's. AA's width according to to SeatGuru is only 17.2'' and inch makes a huge difference in comfort, especially on the longer flights.

I've wondered whether SeatGuru has correct numbers on the OAL narrowbody Boeing seats; an extra 0.8 inches each would mean the coach aisles on those other airlines would be 4.8 inches narrower than on AA. Is that possible? I doubt it. I thought narrowbody Boeings were all outfitted with 17.2 inch seats, but I may be mistaken.

On the 767s, the difference isn't as dramatic - 18 inch wide seats would mean 5.6 extra inches of seats, divided by two aisles means the aisles would have to be 2.8 inches more narrow than on AA. That might be possible.

The 18 to 18.5 inch wide 777 seats are very nice - as wide as the MD-80 seats.

It was a sad day when Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas, an I like the MD80/90 family.
