IFE removal and cabin safety

I like the video we have. Even though it is getting old and the backround music sounds like it came from a 70's porno. I think it gives everyone the chance to actually see and watch. It's hard for some people to see us doing the live demo. I try to avoid anything that doesn't have the ability to play the demo. Hopefully with our new CEO, a new video will be made. I liked our old video from years ago that was done with about 4-5 different F/A's.

I don't know but I find that as many don't watch a live demo just as many do. Of course when you look fabulous in your uniform everyone watches you point to those exits. I personally belive that the demo announcement at US is off the chart horrible. It doesn't flow very well at all. When they first changed it I thought it was just me use to the old version. Many people will talk about Republic but I think the audio they use to demo is very nice. The womans voice is pleasant to the ears and is very to the point. Well I guess this is just any little thing to complain about but as usual it's something about US that blows.  Stay the course folks, staaaaaaaay the course.

If you want to see a wordy safety announcement, talk to your peers
I have actually read it!

I know.

Both the safety video and its manual version is EXTREMELY long and redundant.

people stop paying attention.
during the showing of the safety demo video featuring "Deltalina", we are suppose to stand in our demo positions..and what I have noticed...

passengers are not

asking for blankets, a cup of water, a cookie... during that time!

(I could not get that for them after push back for safety reasons and observing taxi rules!)

but!

the point is they are watching the video and paying attention and they do!

(I also have noticed viewing the cabin while wearing the DL uniform people watch the manual demo too..)

seriously!

personally I enjoy all airline safety videos I find them very informative and interesting! :)

As it stands right now, we are often ready for take-off before we are done with our safety checks and buckled in our jumpseats because the announcements take so much additional time to read.
"You Ain't Just Whistling Dixie!"

(gotta read that thing when that seat belt sign goes on and that plane starts moving, you start reading or you... aint gonna "GIT - 'R - DONE" !)

Piney,

On such a serious issue I can tell you I dread going to the exits. The general public always tries to be a wise guy or cut you off. "Do you speak fluent English?" "si, senor " I always just roll my eyes....wow that never gets old. Can you just take this serious and follow along? If I don't do this verbatim the FAA is all over our rear on this. VERABTEM...PERIOD. I don't like it one bit as I can tell right off who can and can't sit in the exit.
"I am fine I know all this I was here my last flight!" Yeah on an Airbus...this is a 767! They are 2 totally different windows.
On that note we should not have to be doing this at all. From what I was told AW was non complaint with exit row seating issues. We inherited their issues and the East now had to say this speech. It's crap. I was fine with REMIND REVIEW and RESPOND. What I don't need is having this mandate to read this speech and funny man trying to have Show Time at the Apollo.

I have to agree Piney... as many times as I've heard variations on that 'theme', it stopped being funny years ago.

It was cute the first 200 times, but now... so please keep that in mind the next time you're at that row, that FA might be a new face to you, but you can guarantee that it's NOT the first time someone's made that joke.

At Continental we don't have to verbally ask them if they are capable. We did this at Delta and if I was in the position that had to do it, I would beg someone else to do it. I found it embarrassing, oddly and I don't embarrass easily. I think a visual check is more then enough and am glad thats what we do at CAL.

As for the person who said Larry K, is awful. I personnally think it's nice to start our flight off with our CEO thanking our passengers to fly with us. Can't think of anything better to be in his place.

I agree. I think it adds a very personal touch. Except CO is going to have to re-shoot their safety video (or edit out Larry) when he steps down in a few months. (That was the first thing which came to mind when his pending departure was announced. )

They will probably edit the CEO section or just shoot a new video. They did when Bethune left.

I also make a point, regardless of what cabin I am sitting in, to ask the row number where the window exits are located. Most times they're flustered and have to go look for themselves.

Oh, yes, it does...I agree...but his monotone delivery puts you to sleep before the safety video starts.

Yeah? Well asked the parents of Flight Attendant Dea Bethea how they feel about the exit row briefing after their daughter died getting caught in the insanity of the cluster f of passenger not knowing how to open the window exit on USAir flight 1493 February 1, 1991. <_<

I knew Dea casually. IIRC the current procedure came as a direct result of that.
