Can anyone confirm, or deny a rumor I heard from a B6 Crew while commuting home to FLL yesterday? According to them, they have been hearing that American and Jet Blue have been in talks concerning a possible codeshare. In fact, they said this is one reason B6 has decided to stay away from MIA. Maybe this could be another reason for AA's retreat from FLL in June.

That's about as likely to happen as WN merging with AA....

Haha.

Not happening. In fact, expect jetBlue to announce MIA later this year. Word is, MIA will launch with ten daily flights to at least JFK and BOS, maybe others. jetBlue has no more gates at FLL to expand, and wants to go to MIA.

Mark's rumor is far more likely to happen...but this also points out how much of AA's route system is vulnerable to low cost incursion. This DFW problem is still unresolved... it is almost certain that either WN will gain the right to fly longhauls from DAL (less likely) or some other LCC will move into DFW. Either way, AA at DFW will get hurt.

MIA is one of the few protected hubs left. whether B6 or anyone else wants to fly to MIA or not, they clearly see the opportunity to inflict damage exclusively to AA since there are very few markets from MIA where AA is not the dominant carrier. Further, if any LCC is serious about moving into Latin America, MIA is surely the place to go to do it... it only takes a token presence to make the point.

And once again it seems AMR management continues to fiddle while Rome burns.

Even if AA and B6 did want to codeshare, I would place the chances of getting DOT approval at roughly zero.

There is absolutely no benefit to the codeshare in that not one place that JetBlue flies to is not served by AA.
