What's new

AA BK Decision Tues. 20th Sept.?

Did you get kicked out of college or something? Why do you disparage anyone who has chosen to go to college and or graduate school?

A little (no pun intended) sensitive today, are we?

I did nothing of the sort - I only referred to the obvious belief that what's taught in the classroom is a fix-all for any situation. This is nothing more than expansion on the idea that college tends to remove all of one's common sense.

As to your "problems" - are you afraid all of your "hard work" to get one of those fancy degrees might go unrecognized by some peon that works for a living?

You see, most of us don't really care if you have a half mile of print after your name with quals, degrees, memberships and anything I missed - if someone is going to do as you and demand respect you'll have a rather rough go of it as respect is earned, not conferred. So far, I can't see where you've earned a thing but being the butt of a few jokes.

Try harder - we'll be here.

So what happened? No BK.

Guess it was just another RUMOR. Big surprise.

Don't trust everything you read.

So anyone who got tired of being the trounced on AMT (20 years) who goes and gets a degree and improves his lot in life "had all of his common sense removed"? Wow.

Blaming everyone else for your problems will not get you very far. They actually teach that in college.

As for respect...I saw very little of that given to us who put it all on the line by walking away from NWA so guys like you would have a better future (that means going on strike). Something you and your mighty TWU will never do.

I chose to leave it to you and take my common sense degree (earned during the time leading up to and including my 444 days on strike) and seek employment elsewhere. It has been a rewarding experience.

You should try it.

It's rather evident reading comprehension wasn't one of your strong points. Read the post again.

Who's blaming everyone else?

... guys like me having a better future? I'm sure that's why you chose to go out.

NWA took two years to raise an army to replace you, and all that time you believed "they won't be able to find the tools" but you went out anyway.

As for the twu (totally worthless union) - I can't get rid of them by myself - assistance is sorely lacking.

Bully for you - congrats.

I have things lined up for after the airline thing - I've taken care of myself and family rather nicely. FYI, try reading my "about me" page.

I'm not going to rehash the reasons for us striking NWA, suffice it to say there was a larger element than solely "what's in it for me."

I am glad you have a plan B. I read your bio. Sounds like you have some great experience. Not sure why you didn't get your A&P. Sounds like it would have been just a signature and a test. GI Bill would have handed you the money for your degree...

Contrary to your statement, Having an MBA is not a bad thing. The leaders of AA have a responsibility to their shareholders. Somewhere they have to balance that with keeping the workforce engaged. They do teach the basics of that in Graduate schools. Having the skill to apply it and strike a balance is not taught.

IS AMR HEADED TOWARD BANKRUPTCY?
From the Fort Worth Star Telegram

...

But it's also facing some large debt payments. AMR said that as of June 30, it had $1.3 billion in debt payments due by the end of 2011 and $1.8 billion due by the end of 2012. The total debt at the end of the second quarter was $11.8 billion. And when $7.9 billion in underfunded pension benefits and $2.5 billion in other long term liabilities are added, the company has over $30 billion in debt and other long-term obligations.

In downgrading its outlook, Moody's said it expects the company's cash position to drop in the medium term as debt payments and investments in new aircraft exceed operating cash flow.

NOTE:

AMR had a reported total debt of $22 Billion in 2003 during last BK "lawyers on the steps", and since claimed to have paid down debt over the last 10 years.
Now debt is reported to be $30 Billion. Don't get me wrong, I think BK is just around the corner, but my how the numbers always seem to change. They must be already including the new aircraft purchase as they twist and turn the numbers. Talk about Fuzzy Math, hell you cannot even keep up with it all because the numbers change too fast.

I get what you are saying. I am a shareholder, who is glad that the company bought the new airplanes. I feel fully engaged. But I fail to comprehend how the honor of obtaining the MBA holds up when the company is in such dire straits? If the MBA is a success, then the engagement and the application of the degree would show results to the Board of Directors and the company would thrive. But of course I only have an Associate of Applied Science and my A&P.

The degree means nothing if the individual does not know how to manage.

I am quite sure that AA has some very bright minds working on making the company successful. Their idea of success does not necessarily mean industry leading pay for AA AMT's.

My point, and maybe yours and Frank's, is pointing at that. I really think we would agree on more than we disagree if we discussed this at a beer summit. B)

of course you share holders dont seem to give hoots about the REAL folks who will suffer the consequences of the chapter 11 filings at US we lost everything pensions pay etc. i know some folks who even to this day say they shouldve closed the doors at US but Im for one am glad to have a job. but I cant imagine just how hard AA will kill its employees if or when they file CH11 GODSPEED to all the hard working people at AA from Customer Service to Mechanics to Fleet Service and Catering and Ramp Tower

I am glad that there is some understanding. Their idea of industry leading parachute of gold does.

Never did say it was a bad. It turns bad when a stupid SOB is conferred for no reason other than having done the minimum required and their daddy was able to come up with the bucks. That applies from an associates to the Piled high & Deep.

Education is great if one actually applies it for good.

AMR's total debt at present is around $17 billion, not $30 billion.
