AA is spending over $1B on a terminal that will have far fewer gates than B6 will build for 25% less.
AA can't afford to add flights at JFK. Becoming a landlord is the only option - and even then the rents for other carriers will be much higher than in other terminals at JFK.

Just because DL is flying to "world renouned" places like "leictenstein", or bucharest,from JFK does'nt mean #### !!
DL may claim more International flights from JFK, AA IS the "class" out of Kennedy.
What AA needs , is a new A/C to go with the Taj Mahal.
Sooner or later, sooner I believe, boeing/airbus will come out with a bird, that can go JFK/SYD. By then, AA will have the china routes it needs, and will be able to offer award winning service, at top dollar, from JFK, to places like(non-stop jumbo's) to China/Japan/Australia/Africa..South Africa(OF COURSE LHR)(EAT your hearts out EVERYBODY, over the JFK/LHR run).
Because CO is successful across the river in EWR, do you really feel AA could'nt, out of Kennedy, PLUS being a Trump style landlord at JFK.
I'll be the first to admit, that AA could do More out of JFK, but again, I really think that 1. they're waiting for the terminal to be finished 100%, then "match" an A/C to best utilize "it", for the really long haul stuff.
JFK IS america's real Airport, and AA goes from JFK to most of the "champagne" places.
(And if AA and BA EVER hook up, well "the rest is history, and EVERYONE KNOWS IT)
