BOHICA.....

"Today, American Airlines notified its unions – the APA, APFA and TWU – and the National Mediation Board of a meeting next week to initiate the process for changes to our collective bargaining agreements under Section 1113 of the Bankruptcy Code.

Bev Goulet, Treasurer and the company's Chief Restructuring Officer, will make a presentation on the company's restructuring business plan, and provide supporting information relating to the plan.

Jeff Brundage, Senior Vice President – Human Resources, will discuss proposed changes that affect all unions.

Company negotiators will meet separately with each of our unions to present specific proposals that we believe are necessary for American to compete, prosper and grow in the future, along with supporting information.

From that point forward, Company negotiators will be available to begin negotiations immediately."

Sounds like AA might be going to skip the temporary cuts and go straight to trying to get "permanent" concessions (until the next contract negotiations at least).

Actually, this is the real and only reason for the bankruptcy--to screw over the unions. The company has not negotiated in good faith with a single one of the unions--especially, the f/as. They didn't bother because they knew the unions would not accept what they were offering. "Why should we negotiate? If push comes to shove we can always get a BK judge to impose a contract on you."

I see how this is going to go.AMR will (as usual) present a "homerun" contract wishlist and when the unions laugh and tell them to pound sand one grain at a time they can run to court seeking abrogation, claiming they attempted to negotiate with the unions.

Jim Little will of course continue to "Fight like hell" on our behalf, but will accept whatever AMR throws at him in order to maintain dues income.
