AC A340-500s almost a done deal

and that is why I was SHOCKED when Fox News reported he got a DUI!!!!!

THE POST REFERS TO A CONVERSATION WITH BRUCE LAKEFIELD AND NOT DOUG PARKER - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY NEXT TIME.

No truth to this rumor - Bruce Lakefield was just on my flight. Flt 774 Phl - Lgw 26 Feb 07. U S Airways is still committed to the A350's. IF AND WHEN IT EVER GETS OFF THE GROUND! He would not give any further details ( like how many or where they would be flying ). We ( the flight crew ) really bent his ear on giving Doogie a message to give us a contract though. He came up to the cockpit and chatted with us for about 15 minutes before departure. This man is a true gentleman and U S Airways would probably not be in business if it werent fot the efforts of this guy.

Then how is LCC supposed to run the China route they applied for, which will be awarded soon, to begin flying in '08? The A350 is years away from ever seeing any commercial flying. They'll need some type of fill-in until the A350 gets on property.

I was joking...Fox showed poor Lakefield's picture when they announced the DUI... 🙄 jeez, relax, betty...

Good question...Confucious say, "No big bird, No lo mein."

The odds say they won't get the china route. So no worries.

WHATS UP MY FRIEND... THE RR ENG IS THE BEST. NOT LIKE THE PW THAT TAKES 1 OR SO QUARTS PER HR.
not much up just the same thing a different day my friend thanks for the replys!!!! wonder what the a-340 will look with new colors

ALPA is in negotiations for an improved joint East/West contract. The A340's are being dangled as a carrot in front of the pilots (especially in the East), in an attempt to get yet another concessionary contract. And why not? It's worked for previous managements many times before.

Oh please, tell me the entire pilot group is not going to bend over again for two shiny [used] airplanes.......

I can't watch, I just can't watch......

Congrats on getting the A340-500. It is a most capable aircraft indeed. It would open up potential new non-stops all throughout Asia and the Middle East, from either PHX or PHL. Longest commercial airliner in the world correct?
I have flown on Singapore Airlines A340-500's many times and with these aircraft they fly the longest non-stop routes in the world and in the history of air travel. EWR to SIA and SIA to EWR. Beautiful airplanes and they are the -500 is the longe range version. The -600 has more passenger capacity but cannot fly nearly as far. Nothing finer!! They make a 777 look like nothing.

How connected is Lakefield to US Airways, really, anymore? Does he wander around the 9th floor at the Sandcastle and have lunch with Scott?

Did he address the China route, and what we would do for equipment, in the meantime? If not, I doubt if he is "in the know" any more than the rest of us... Being committed to an aircraft that may see revenue service in 2012, or later, does not mean US is NOT getting the AC A340's...

No, offense, I like Bruce. Just wondering how much "inside info" he has access to...

If I recall correctly Bruce Lakefield is no longer involved in the day to day operation of US Airways. He served his purpose during the merger.

That said, as stated before, it would make no sense for them to get these aircraft, so they probably will.....

Lakefield, Parker, and Kirdy would dismiss any rumor and they would not would not tell employees because they are instructed to never give out any type of information until it is finalized.

The Singapore version has seating of 64/117. Air Canada seats 42/225. Once the people in Tempe find out that there is a whopping 33 inches of pitch in coach, watch out for the US version that will seat 30/273.

i hope US keeps this plane its flagship service wise....especially if we are gonna go china or more international. This is a really nice plane and hope we get it !
