1200 less mechanics
5 weeks vacation
No double time.

8 sick days.

Anybody with authority saying this?

This isn’t very positive and I can’t believe this is remotely true, even though this would be an improvement over LAA current contract it would mean the LUS would be taking concessions.

I hope thats false, because if thats where we are after all of this time thats insane.
 
Since we are throwing rumors around, in Dallas (and I didn't get it from W so I'm sure I need to check my sources) the rumor is Fleet is waiting on the mechanics and nothing else.

This sounds more accurate, the company or union should show proposal so we can see who is lying to us. It’s unfortunate that both company and our own union doesn’t have our full confidence.

It really bothers me that the union doesn’t have our complete faith seeing how I am forced (for now) to pay the union for this kind of representation.

I can understand the company’s point of view to a point.
 
Yeah if your stupid about it maybe. I had a buddy try to sell some tools to a pawn shop and they refused to buy them. They told him they had too much stock already. They could not even sell what they had. They were practically giving them away just to get them out of their store. You can snatch toolboxes up all day long on Craigslist and eBay for a LOT less than 4K. I saw a couple of really nice ones (roll around of course) go for about 1K. The trick is you buy second hand until you get established then start getting the "good" stuff.

When I worked as an electrician long ago I did not necessarily have all the tools I needed. I had people help me out a bit until I could acquire what I needed. Don't you guys do that for up and coming mechanics? If not why not? Don't you want to help a fellow UNION brother?

I did NOT leave those costs out. They were included in the in the total I gave. If you look at their website they have those items listed under Additional Required Costs:

$2906.90** for A
$2810.50** for P

So a total of 5717.40 of Additional Required Costs.

So? You are going to have housing costs no matter what when you leave the nest. That is part of being an adult.

Need I remind you I was talking about earning "potential". Nobody expects someone to make 100K right out of the gate. As far as the shift work why would I even bring that up. We all know airline workers work odd hours. Do I really have to say that? That being said pay even with a 4 year degree and no experience can be low. It's called working your way up. A degree does not mean you can actually do the job you got the degree for. It just means you can pass tests.

I worked for AA in 2003 as well. I remember the concessions. That being said American Airlines is not the center of the universe. There are plenty of other good paying A&P jobs out there for future A&P mechanics.

Oh spare me. You guys make more than most of the college graduates I know. I will say it again, American Airlines is not the center of the universe. Having an A&P simply makes American Airlines an option not a destination. I still think A&P can be a good career choice.

I would also like to point out you seem to be taking some liberties crediting me with things I never said (as well as Vortilon). For instance I never said 100K with no experience. That exist only in your mind.

If I remember correctly that was what the company gave to the membership over jetnet a while back because the union would not bring it to the membership. This is what the company thinks is an industry leading contract. Do you?? If not then your OK. Its not a TA. The company has had the scope proposal for 4 weeks and has not given a counter proposal. That being said this is out dated info from the company with a little bit added to spice up the rumor. That being said this is what the company and Parker think of you. Have you had enough yet???????????

Not really. But you attributed things to me I did not say and posted erroneous information. Then you assumed the cost I quoted did not include books. You stated prices for equipment when cheaper options were available.

Don't get mad cause I pointed out all the flaws in your post. Though I would hardly call that a post, more like a false narrative.

Yes you are right I was a bag handler. The part your leaving out is I was stationed at a MAINTENANCE BASE for 12 years.I know you guys have to work to exacting standards. I also know when I first started I used to see 5 mechanics sitting around playing a PlayStation one of them had installed in their toolbox, another 10 sitting around the smoke box watching 4 more play dominoes, and 5 people on the plane. Hardly terrible working conditions.

I also happen to know something about working a dangerous job with liability as I worked as an electrician before American Airlines.

By the way I don't work for Walmart I work in telecom and I am not a programmer I am a network specialist. 2 more things you attributed to me that were incorrect. At least you are consistent.

Listen up guys, the company is trying to get what they can in work rules and outsourcing while we are under a CBA. There is no pressure from the company to negotiate a new agreement until the current CBA becomes amendable. The company is testing the waters of the association and memberships response to their approach to the bigger picture. That will happen after this September when our CBA becomes amendable. Unless both sides agree to a JCBA in the meantime. The company proposals are not ILC. Until we understand this we are just in a waiting game. Profits rolling in and aircraft are leaving full. That's the business model of the new American Airlines. Forget about what the Unions, Association and the company stated about negotiations back in 2015. That did not happen. We as members were mislead by all parties involved. Accept that and move on. If we get a ILC JCBA before years end that will be great but I doubt we will get a ILC JCBA in 2018. Maybe a JCBA but not ILC.

Some people get bitter and angry when stuff happens, unfortunately management looks as maintenance employees as a cost, and if they can save money by contracting work out, they will. I hope young people want to come into this field, if not, they will just have line maintenance ,and minor hangar work, and contract all heavy maintenance out.Became you will have enough military people and whatever schools there are to fill those positions.

While I have respected your right to post here, at times you do seem arrogant for someone who left our profession. Yes, there are other places and fields beside the airline industry and American Airlines. You might want to check the definition of Tact, it took me a day in the Brig to recheck the definition some 30 years ago. I know you will think or even tell me you know what tact is. I am suggesting that you tell yourself. To put it another way, you do rub people the wrong way with what seems like arrogance. You gave me the impression of a career at AA as an A&P Mechanic and now you say you were in Fleet Service?

Mr. Parker has promised at least Delta or United +3%. Why was there a massive hiring in the Fleet Service title during the bankruptcy era? Fleet has always outnumbered the Maintenance title group. The TWU is an industrial union that caters to the masses without concern for the mechanic's skill, each union member is the same. In negotiations compensation has to cover everyone, however, in my of 34 years, Fleet has often ended up at the top of their profession in compensation and benefits. I fully understand the concept. Jumping forward to today, the membership is asked to believe in this concept again through an entity called an Association. Some of the mechanics have been trying to replace this industrial union with an Association of their choice for more than 25 years. finally, the industrial union "allows" basically one retiring member to discuss the future of representation through dual unionism, a very big rule breaker but because it has he internationals position it is ok. Now for whatever reason Parker is reneging on his promise, why? the first I see is a lowering of the mechanic headcount. If we take that at its face value it is part of Parker trying to get a specific mechanic headcount to match Delta and or United but also that cost must be paid for through other parts of the contract. Less headcount and a higher percentage of outsourcing to match his competitor.

A&P License(s), for whom? Are these license going to be required at the maintenance bases? So we look tp A&P Fast Track or a form of it to obtain licensed union members that are already working for the company., a no increase in labor cost? or the union agreeing to have existing membership being moved around at the least expense possible. Although I am told that the Machinist will have to find a different path.


Overall another move to downgrade the profession at the expense of the profession.

And all that is required is a majority to get what they need. Do not forget that the IAM does not have Title groups...

If the masses knew what the company has put on the table thus far, maybe just maybe guys would get mad enough to finally give the NC the support they need and many have called for. The current proposed reduction in overhaul numbers and 5 weeks max VC, 2 things that should have guys angry. We are our own worst enemy though. The NC wants/need support but won`t put out official specifics. Instead they leak small unofficial bits and hide behind NDAs. Then the guys on the floor are fat, dumb and happy as long as their down time and internet are not messed with. Too much complacency and rampant IGM. Guys scream for an ILC but are unwilling to fight for it. Typical of society today. We keep doing what we are doing. We will keep getting what we are getting.

We need to know what is being offered. We are getting mixed messages from the union, sometimes negotiations are positive and other times it’s not going anywhere.


I see stewards but they’re in the dark as much as we are. The elected officials are on UB and we never see them.

Information is power and powerful. In our case the co. was dividing the membership away from supporting the NC in the beginning. Then the NC and AMFA decided get proactive instead of reactive. Doing road shows for the membership to get all the info and how the co. was really nego and creating division within the membership. Well it all worked very well in the NC favor as all members fully support our NC at the table. It drives the co. bonkers now. Once the membership was given the info. of how and what the co. was "really" doing at the table, the pro co. guys quit going to the co. side negotiators offices for their false information and even put 99% of full co. supporters to fully support our nego cmte 100%. A great move by AMFA and our NC. Information is very powerful. I think you guys need to get your NC to do the same as ours did. 1- It will get the membership to fully support their NC, which works wonders at the table. 2- It will get the membership mad as hell if they had "all" the info. and 3- It would more than likely get nego's moving at a quicker pace. Keeping the membership completely in the dark just creates rumors, misinformation, confusion, and restlessness within the membership that will unknowingly cause divide between the NC and the membership which is a very negative process and takes any power away from the NC at the table...
