Airline industry Frankenstein could creak to life

Instead, the combined carrier - which will be called US Airways and will be headquartered in Phoenix - could emerge with significantly more than $2bn in total liquidity, making it one of the best-financed US airlines.

Progress has been swift because, as one person involved in the discussions says, “there is something in it for everyoneâ€￾.

The combined entity could emerge as the largest operator of Airbus aircraft, after Northwest, with a fleet of about 220 Airbus airplanes.

The ATSB is understood to be willing to back the deal, according to several officials.

Is anybody stunned that according to the Financial Times the combined carrier could emerge with significantly more than $2 billion in total liquidity, making it one of the best-financed US airlines?

I think those that are most stunned are in Ft. Worth, Atlanta and Chicago. All of the sudden, they are on the outside looking in, and they are all about 2-3 years behind the eightball.

Geez, it is not only the draconian cuts U was able to secure, but now possibly 2 Billion in liquidity. Watch the scramble begin!

Forbes said, "America West and US Airways may release the final terms of a wide-ranging financial package this week that could provide more than one bln ($1 billion) usd in new financing. The newspaper also said there could be other deals with suppliers, such as the credit card processors, who could be asked to provide signing bonuses."

How could ClueByFour be so wrong, again?

Yes, I am stunned. Lay low and do not ruin the moment. This is good news. Greeter.

I too am stunned. I am stunned that anyone with $100 mil+ is willing to invest in what isn't going to be a match made in heaven.

There are so many hurdles to overcome and so many questions left to be answered. This isn't going to be a slam dunk by any means.......remember the UAL thing? That was supposed to be a slam dunk too.

I wouldn't gloat just yet.

This is serious great news for the employees of U.....
