Does anyone have any idea what will happen to Mesa's America West Express division, and especially their 900's? I know they run 200's, some 700's (being phased out to UAX), and some Dash-8's? What does the current US ALPA contract say about 90 seat flying, is it to be done in house or can it be contracted out? Looks like Johnny O has some more leverage now that Republic is out.

Nothing is going to happen to the Mesa AW flying. We have a contract and because they are not in BK it can't be terminated. Expect to see some CRJ900 on the east coast though. -Cape

"The rest of the capacity cuts will be spread throughout the system from reduced frequencies and markets. The merged airline also will make some changes in its regional feeder network. There are now 38 CRJ-900s flying for America West, mainly on the West Coast, but 18 of the planes will move to the East Coast to replace some US Airways 737 flying. The 57 US Airways Dash 8 turboprops will keep flying for the merged airline, as Kirby said they are currently profitable and offer a lot of flexibility. "

It would be done in-house, but the 170/190 fleet is on the chopping block.

Who said Republic is out? Seems like the paltry $58M for the turnkey 170 operation is anticipated to happen regardless of the slot and equity portions of the Wexford deal.

Funny how it seems to make sense to some that the potential 170/190 fleet should be contracted out, when the combined AAA/AWA fleet is to be reduced in the merger transaction.

Is $58M really worth the loss of AAA/AWA pilots jobs?

Particularly considering $55M of that would be pissed away on the farewell gift to US Airways management. A mainline fleet type will be lost for a net of $3M. Hmmm. At the current 170/190 fleet size, 300+ pilots jobs will go away for $3M. $10,000 or so per pilot, or about 66% of the cost of training 1 new pilot. Not including the FAs, mechanics, etc.

Oh well, the important thing is that the highly talented and soon to be unemployed management get a nice send off with a wad of cash in their pockets. It ain't cheap living the high life down there in the Crystal City area, we must be compassionate.

This came from the Friday morning Analyst Conference call with Parker. It is about 40-45 minutes into the call.
