Heard that as well. They like to talk out of both sides of their mouth-one breath the delusional “TWA [was] a valuable brand and had other suitors” then to defend the IAM in the same breath it’s “this allowed for the greatest number to remain employed at the time”.

Bottom line is they were a group conditioned by the IAM to give concessions and the rest of the industry paid a price. Unlike Eastern who fought the concessions they rolled over each and every time, and TWA retirees who NEVER worked a day got free pass travel (which they complained about until 2014 when they went to D2R). Top of scale pay, full company seniority for vacation bidding too. Plenty of nAAtives got their start at other carriers including Eagle and got zero credit for their time.

People are people, haven’t Ozark guys posted the reception they got coming to AA was no worse than the reception they got coming to TWA?

Valuable brand their newest piece of equipment was 20 years old. What other suitors?

Al not sure the bonafides or seriousness of the "other suitors", but one name that gets trotted by 700 in defense of the IAM was Michael Milken:

As for the fleet actually had a relatively large number of newer 757s, 717s, and MD-83s at the time but they were all on very expensive operating leases from ILFC due to TWA's high credit risk profile.

The 717s left the AA fleet in 2002 due to their high lease payments and duplicative to the F-100 fleet (which was subsequently phased out in 2004). Many of these were later repurposed to AirTran Airways and some are now operating in DLs fleet today.

The 757s left in 2007 for Delta as they had a strange rear hatch emergency exit along with incompatible Pratt & Whitney engines against AAs 757-223s with Rolls Royce and a different overwing emergency exit configuration. These are also currently operating in DLs fleet and still sport the N7xxTW regs are used on premium transcon and Transatlantic flying from JFK.

The MD-83s for the most part stayed around and had some cabin and galley mods but you can still tell a former TW frame from a nAAtive by the FC coat closet being located AFT the forward lavatory (in front of seats 3AB). The S80s of course will all gone in approximately 18-24 months.

I honestly dont remember anything newer.I remember Wolf wanting a midwest hub but didnt want the people similar to US when they went looking for a buyer, nobody wanted our people except for Parker. I was at the TWA terminal(s) in the early 80s and it was f@$ked up big time. The time clocks were in a bunker like room they were getting destroyed so much.Lockers filled with liquor kits.Loan sharks hanging around on payday

Yeah IDK about that. TW had very antiquated systems and processes and after flying nAAtive aircraft I remember my first TWA flight and it felt like going back in time.

Didn’t TW have gates right next to US at LGA?

Again I don’t understand why the IAM still to this day has so many former TWA employees as union officers. When will they get new leadership in touch with carriers that have existed for the past two decades?

Aren’t there more TW people than NW still presiding over the IAM? The TW DL 142 is still alive and active, yet NWA DL 143 was quickly dissolved after the interference charges were settled and AS was folded into DL 142.

So what do you suppose he’d do? Other than further delay things.
He doesn’t have one more ounce of leverage than the current group does, maybe walking in there and announcing his name will get Isom shaking in his boots and give us everything.idk
