American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

If you knew anything about the commercial aspects of this industry you would know smaller stations that have less competitive capacity tend to be higher yielding (meaning on a seat mike basis more revenue is generated). Somewhere like Kev’s station doesn’t have WN, and has AA/DL/UA can price some very lucrative one-stop itineraries through their respective hubs. Don’t believe me? Scott Kirby has even said this much as it relates to growing smaller and regional markets from UAs ORD & DEN hubs.

So while a BOS, DFW, MIA, etc earns significantly more revenue, the quality of the revenue in a market like MSN or BDL is better. MIA has tons of competition particularly on the international front.

Al doesn’t seem to like the fact that the LAA TWU side in LGA has more workers than the LUS IAM side has?

I hope I’m wrong about this because I could never really understand why someone would want to work that much harder for the same money?

Maybe today he can explain his thoughts without his usual plethora of droll quips?
Simply put companys bottom line less workers more profits.Bigger profit more security less likely need for cuts. You pay an outrageous town tax then you see 1 guy filling in a pothole while 7 watch

If I were at the table, NYC (all points), SFO (all points), ANC, and HNL would all have it.

I wanted to come back to this for a second. Do you seriously think it’s that easy? First let’s forget about what the Company thinks on the issue. How are you planning on flying it past the Reps for DFW and CLT?

You think it’s going to go over (Or down) easy that those City members are getting something they’re not?

I think you’re underestimating the concept of greed.

No. A base rate is just that; a base. It is the floor, not the ceiling. This is Labor 101 type stuff, Dave.

You are advocating lowering the floor depending on size of flight operations. If you commit to that, then you must also commit to being okay with things like DL’s Ready Reserve program, and even DGS, and Envoy.

That’s quite a corner you’ve backed yourself into. You sure that’s really where you want to be?

I’m in no corner and again you’re looking to be confrontational with me with that comment when I am trying to be civil with you.

Again I just disagree with “some” of your opinions and ideas which seem to severely irritate you.

I absolutely don’t advocate for lowering any floor on Stations currently “HELD” under contract. My MEM friend Greg and what “HE” would have preferred under the circumstances he found himself in is where I place my litmus. (MEM being where he was born, raised and will Die)

Kevin do the financials of the house you live in (Your Company) cross any thoughts in your mind? When NWA was in distress were your thoughts different then from where they are today? Say you worked for K-Mart or Sears would you hold a “Full pay to the last day” shut off the lights mantra? (Just curious here)

On those 13 cities I mentioned the Company holds all the cards since we don’t own them currently in either Contract (MEM included) What if the Company says no dice on reopening them at $32.00 per hour plus? Would you just abandon them completely then?

Kevin what do you think of this comment from Al? Do you think we at AA are overstaffed and should trim the fat for more Corporate profits and job security?

How many job opportunities and at what expense should the Company provide?

Should we even have pay scales? Why don’t all reach TOS on DOH?

And he was right. Anyone that understands the concept of a hub knows that the more spokes it has, the more healthy it will be.

I’m in no corner and again you’re looking to be confrontational with me with that comment when I am trying to be civil with you.

This is me being civil.

Nevertheless, you just spent the morning/early afternoon coming down on the side of two-tier wage scales, and by extension supporting the continuation of things like DL's RR program, widespread outsourcing, etc.

Again I just disagree with “some” of your opinions and ideas which seem to severely irritate you.

I'm not irritated so much as I'm disappointed. I don't want to see you type another word about solidarity (or whatever) after this. Your position-and you have a right to it-is simply anti-worker.

I'm a fan of every part of this industry.

As for NWA, we're a long way past that era now. You are too.

On those 13 cities I mentioned the Company holds all the cards since we don’t own them currently in either Contract (MEM included) What if the Company says no dice on reopening them at $32.00 per hour plus? Would you just abandon them completely then?

They hold them because your reps gave up station protection.

And I’m disappointed that you can never expand your thoughts and are so insular and one dimensional.

So according to you I’m not entitled to my own opinion, in my own Company, in my own Union, during my own Contract Negotiations that effect my own life?

Your “opinions” being the accepted Golden Ticket.

And DL’s Ready Reserve program is an issue only you can take care of in your own house. It DOESN’T exist in any of the Unionized houses.

As for NWA, we're a long way past that era now. You are too.

Being as it seems I am the ONLY TWU Member on these threads telling the IAM to hold firm to keeping their Medical and Catering I think I am keenly aware of the era we are in TODAY.

They hold them because your reps gave up station protection.

Not speaking of the controversial decisions made in 2003. The decisions made in 2011 were made during a Bankruptcy. Something that I always get the impression you think is or should be easily dismissed. (Tell that to my cousin who worked for Twinkees)

I now recognize the roll of some posters here on Forums. Particularly you, Tim and ograc. You are the Small Station Warriors. Swords always out ready to chop down the Hub hordes.

Nothing wrong with that as every group has to have their advocates I suppose. But personally I’m going to continue my focus on the complete picture rather than just one small aspect of it.

I suspect you will continue to vehemently and aggressively disagree with everything I write in the future now? C’est La Vie.

Notice in response to all of this Kevin didn’t answer not even one single question that was posed to him.

My entire writing only winding up being a springboard for him to propel his personal thoughts, opinions and agenda.

I really would have preferred to have a conversation instead. But alas it apparently was not to be.

Dude. I literally stated the opposite in the post you quoted. Literally.

And DL’s Ready Reserve program is an issue only you can take care of in your own house. It DOESN’T exist in any of the Unionized houses.

Yes, we need to take care of it, but yes it absolutely exists at union carriers. You know this because I’ve shared it with you before.

I think everyone should have a working knowledge of the business side of the industry, and I also think that unions should play a larger role in that. Knowledge is power.

I suspect you will continue to vehemently and aggressively disagree with everything I write in the future now? C’est La Vie.

Now you’re just pouting. C’mon man.

It was siesta time. Sorry not sorry.

The company's last best contract offer INCLUDED ALL SMALL STATIONS. Actually, it's September 12th one did as well. This BS that Weez is proclaiming that the company never gave a written offer is a complete joke but one that Sito's narrative must hold to since members were enraged that they didn't see the offer, let alone have the opportunity to vote on one.

BTW, Weez claims that the company can make profits and offer the same $120 million cost positive offer a few years from now even though his handlers say that Trump is going to crash the economy. Weez even claims that we should not pay attention to oil because the company is too big for the price of oil to change its offer to us. Well, I like weez but he isn't an expert on oil, so let's listen to those who are experts and hear what they say about American Airlines and how it could eventually go back into bankruptcy. And guess what? Since we haven't signed a contract, you know which group would be the first one up for concessions? Yep, us. We have stupid stupid people in there wearing tin caps and WILL COST all stations to be contracted out because the negotiating team are all from hubs which will pass on any concessions to small stations, AKA close them and let them sacrifice as the offer gets worse.

Here is what the experts are saying about American Airlines and the oil prices.
