American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

Man you really hate the Unions don’t you. It’s your words I pick up on Metal. Your own words.

And I have to “think” that newest wage offer has to (understandably) have you frustrated?

Can’t say $1.16 has me ready to Bungee Jump off a Bridge.
So it's NOT about union dues? How many decades or centuries of unborn are they really concerned about? How many are we supposed to be worried about?

BTW, I don't hate unions. Just fed up with how they operate. For starters WE NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO VOTE ON THE ASSOCIATION! How about the cahoots with the teamsters to keep AMFA out? I'm tired of the he said she said crap going back and forth. I don't trust either side. I am not a sheep who believes everything my union says. Sorry. Experience made me this way.
They need to be realistic about what will most likely happen. The company will come out on top. One way or another.
And once again. The contract I live under now looks like it will be my last looking at the pace of negotiations so your theory about wages are null and void.
What comes out of any contract means little to me as I approach the end. Almost wish I could fast forward the clock to be rid of the TWU ala the ASSociation.

The first step is the Company needs to put out a full text proposal on the outstanding issues for the TWU and IAM Members to look at.

Second step should be the Association’s response to that proposal and perhaps sharing in writing exactly what they are asking the Company for today. (Our current position)

From there we see what the position is of the NMB and whether or not they recommend a PEB.

If a PEB is enacted we accept their proposals and vote on that with the recommendations of the Association.
TRUST THE MEMBERSHIP!

If there are 4 here that will strike I don’t know who they are. It’s a consensus so far that we would look like idiots striking for future dues payers. Im sure the general population is waiting to honor our courage to strike on principle. It would be my luck the dude that cut me off in traffic n flipped me the bird would be the guy that got hired because I struck or worse yet got replaced by his @$$ because I struck.
Myself and others may change our minds if We could see something in writing but as of now the ass has zero support at the membership level. There’s more of a sense of being used as leverage for an agenda than having a bargaining agent representing us.
This isn’t a coal mine we’re working in. If we had a valid reason to strike like unsafe working conditions or other atrocities the hell yes let’s walk but this????

On another note I asked an AMT if he would sign a card for a new union that would combine all groups not just AMT’s and no hesitation he said yes. I’ve tried getting him to sign an AMP card for 7 months n no luck!!!!
I can't even begin to say how many of my immediate coworkers are tired and upset with the union more so than the company. And they are pretty much high time.

You do realize that the Association has backed down to the position of just wanting to keep what we have left after all the Bankruptcies.

Is that really too much to ask?

the company proposal will be much less than what was verbalized. This includes wages, health care, and severe layoffs. Im telling you guys the truth.
If the union doesnt back off its iam pension demands then the verbalizations are gone immediately.
Gone will be southwest wages for mechanics. 100% guaranteed. Fly said that was never put down in writing because the union insisted on an iam pension outcome.

Looking at Jetnet, the April 26th letter has "Increasing wages to match the new higher pay rates for applicable mechanic pay rates (AMTs, Inspectors, GSE/Facilities, and MCTs) in the Southwest tentative agreement". If that is not "put down on paper", then what do you call it?

Why are you ok with only 3% and 2% per year from there on out?

After the display in TUL are you serious?
Here's the reality. There are those who only care about scope, there are those who care only about medical. There are those who care only about the buyout. Every member has something they care about. We may not see and agree with the others' position. They should each have a chance to be counted. That's what a democratic process is.

In 1995 the when the airlines were starting to be profitable again the twu brought back 1.5% yearly raises on a industry first “6 year long contract”. Along with outsourcing 25% of the A/P jobs at overhaul. (1.5% at 18 bucks an hour). 2% at today’s hourly raise I can live with.

that piece of paper on jetnet isnt an official offer. It even says so. Goofy peterson is actually right about that one.

Not an offer? Then what does the statement from Jetnet posted below mean? It says they proposed two significant improvements. If they did in fact propose this to the union, isn't that an "official offer"?

Team,

This week, negotiating teams for the company and the Association met for our last scheduled mediation session. Knowing the significance of this meeting, on the first day of talks, we proposed two very significant improvements to our current offer:

  1. Increasing wages to match the new higher pay rates for applicable mechanic pay rates (AMTs, Inspectors, GSE/Facilities, and MCTs) in the Southwest tentative agreement.
  2. Making the transition to American Airlines medical plans easier for IAM-represented team members by adding a one-time, $3,000 medical transition payment. Also, under our proposal, the PPO 100 plan would sunset at the end of 2019, but participants could remain in the PPO 80 and 90 plans until the end of 2020.
