To clean out all the last vestiges of the contract not related to workrules, including benefits, pension, and perhaps seniority? Workrules were imposed. I don't believe that even in self-help that NWA could change the other items as easily.
Why not?
At the very least, it's obvious that they're going to have to go into court to terminate the pension plan for AMFA.
Just for AMFA? Rediculous, they would have to do it for everyone.
If they can prove that pensions were still on the table (only speculating -- NWA/AMT, please feel free to correct me if pensions were already agreed to in principle), then there's not as much of a case to be made.
Well as far as the pension AMFA members stopped accumulating when they stopped getting a paycheck. So for now that the cut off point, whatever they earned up until this point should be protected since their salaries put them under the max payout from the PBGC, now the pilots, thts a different story.
Another angle with the BK is that it will make it easier for NWA to merge with another carrier. Then they could rid themselves of all the scabs, screw over the contractors and get mechanics who were able to get an airline job working on their planes again.
