Another One To File

Hey, news flash, AMFA is on strike. Both parties were released by the NMB and the company has already abrogated the contract.

True, they've already imposed new terms, but it still wouldn't surprise me to see the company go thru the process of having the now-expired contract officially thrown out by the court.

For what purpose?

To extradite AMFA from the company forever is it not obvious. Were you not told that this was Northwest’s intention?

It is most obvious by your continued anti AMFA post you are either an IAM stooge or a management bootlicker.......OH WAIT that would be the same thing! You are no friend to the mechanic and will most assuredly get your just reward from NWA 😉

There might not be as many mechanics rolling over direct after all. The mechanics asked, "If we become permanent employees for Northwest will we have to join a union?" Northwest didn't answer the question. They just beat around the bush. The guys said that if they had to pay any type of union dues that they will not rollover. Northwest has yet to satisfactorily answer the question.

What they should really be asking is WHEN not IF you file for BK will we get our last paycheck

Big E, most of these guys have already done the union thing and hated it and the ones that haven’t don't want too. Why do you find that impossible to believe?

To clean out all the last vestiges of the contract not related to workrules, including benefits, pension, and perhaps seniority? Workrules were imposed. I don't believe that even in self-help that NWA could change the other items as easily.

At the very least, it's obvious that they're going to have to go into court to terminate the pension plan for AMFA. If they can prove that pensions were still on the table (only speculating -- NWA/AMT, please feel free to correct me if pensions were already agreed to in principle), then there's not as much of a case to be made.

Of course we will we don't receive our checks from Northwest they come from the contract companies.

HEY Genius, who do you suppose is paying those SCAB companies?

The other ideas of going into BK have to deal with shaping the other aspects of the business plan. The pensions are gone. They are going to gut the other contracts also. I think they are using the strike as an excuse to get rid of the AMFA and go into BK and do whatever else they were planning for the long-term. Maybe they will screw over the contract companies. I think they'll try to squeeze a lot of savings out of them in the attempt. Maybe long-term, the mechanics will be back, but not the AMFA. They could maybe play the old mechs against the new mechs in BK. You won't have a contract in the next two weeks, so anybody that comes back will be on NW's terms.

Why not?

Just for AMFA? Rediculous, they would have to do it for everyone.

Well as far as the pension AMFA members stopped accumulating when they stopped getting a paycheck. So for now that the cut off point, whatever they earned up until this point should be protected since their salaries put them under the max payout from the PBGC, now the pilots, thts a different story.

Another angle with the BK is that it will make it easier for NWA to merge with another carrier. Then they could rid themselves of all the scabs, screw over the contractors and get mechanics who were able to get an airline job working on their planes again.

It doesn't matter. If Northwest doesn't pay the contract company I still get my check. If you really want to know where my money comes from just ask Northwest why they missed their pension fund payment. Apparently I'm not just collecting some saps weekly wages I'm collecting some old-timers pension. Genius.
