What's new

Any news on TLV service and AA's obligations?

No clue on any new developments but at any rate I will be taking the US flight in the very near future and will (finally) report back on my experience. I imagine AA/US will settle whatever matters still need to be resolved and continue the PHL flight and possibly add MIA. Will be interesting to see what happens either way. From my perspective this route is one of the few (or single) positive from this silly merger.

Good thing your perspective wasn't the DOJ's deciding factor... 🙂
TLV is in my bucket of things to do though.

After a point, Tel Aviv is just another big, modern city.  Jerusalem, however, was awe-inspiring.  Even if you are not religious (which I'm not very), the amount of world history that has taken place there (or nearby) is astounding.  An experience not to be missed.

Exactly, Jim. I'm not overly religious, but I believe "seeing" the history would indeed be breathtaking.

Sorry, folks.  I really should have read the old thread that I linked.   It really is not about the subject of AA's unpaid severance payments to former TWA staff in Israel. This thread has bit more: http://www.airlineforums.com/topic/54626-tlv/?hl=%2Btel+%2Baviv+%2Bamerican+%2Btwa#entry953235

IFAIK, AA still had not paid the money that the Israeli courts have ruled is due to the TWA people.  Once the corporate transaction goes through -- even before the operational merger -- what could happen?

I would expect the government to contact the company and negotiations to begin shortly after the merger is finalized. That's assuming it hasn't happened already.

PHL-TLV is one of US's most profitable routes, it wont be going anywhere and there are hints of a second daily flight when some more A330-200s come on board.

The Israeli authorities are holding all the cards.  Parker will see to it that whatever the court ordered will be complied with.  TLV service isn't going away over a few million bucks.  (I just hope the court orders exhorbitant interest, too, as a punitive measure.)

They really should add MIA-TLV, flying US MIA-PHL-TLV next week. Absolutely is a market for MIA-TLV, hopefully AA/US will reach a settlement with the Israeli authorities and add more flights. Not sure about US F/As but many of the CO NLA/NTA FAs based at EWR enjoy the TLV trip. Hopefully the AA IMA crews will as well.

The US crews enjoy TLV trips, for the most part.  The cabin crews would enjoy it a whole lot more if they had credible rest areas in the airplane, like CO 777s.  A coach seat with a foam leg rest just is not quite the same.

Well I dont think MIA to TLV is such a good route at the moment, LY pulled out and no other carrier flies it.

If there was a demand for it, someone would be flying it.

Your collective bargaining agents should have championed better and more stringent work rules in the CBA. Besides res told me seat 1A is pilot crewrest. No bunks onboard? DL 330s have bunks in the far aft occupying space that could be used for a cargo container, same on their 763s and oh btw their F/As are non-union.
