What's new

Are they Hypocrites?

FAA says only licensed qualified pilot's or dispatchers/mechanics can ride the jump seat. There are some exceptions to that in each company's manual. the thought being the jump seat is used as a training tool rather than an extra seat on the airplane.

Sorry. Now I understand. In your book PIC and God are synonyms.

Not quite. But the FAA does make the Captain the final authority on the aircraft so call him what you want - what he says goes.

And, given the US pilots' current progress toward a new contract, I expect we'll all be dead and buried long before that comes to fruition.

No argument there. USAPA sucks so badly that the company now makes fun of them in an open forum. I suggest all employees access the Annual Leadership Conference on the Wings website.

Johnson is pretty specific as to the individuals he blames within USAPA.

That's like the old joke:

Q: What's the difference between God and a pilot?
A: God doesn't think he can fly an airplane.
OR

Q: What separates a flight attendant from the Scum of the Earth?
A: The Cockpit Door!

Seriously the FAA rules practically confer a God like status to the Pilot in Command. IIRC this doctrine/concept goes back hundreds of years to basic Maritime law.

...and you seem to ignore the correct terminology of that seat: FLIGHT ATTENDANT JUMPSEAT.

snap...snap...snap

so, keep your list of F/A's in CLT who will challenge you in regard to contractual rights on that jumpseat. That list will quickly add to hundreds and hundreds.
So, before you move to CLT, I suggest you DUMP that "Cactus" attitude! J/S on the East is ONLY for F/A's. Get used to it.

Yes, it is the flight attendant jumpseat. On the west side we are allowed to ride on it only if there is not a non-revving flight attendant using it. Flight attendants have priority. I will also add that any time I've seen it used the fight attendants were asked if it was OK if a pilot sat there. We don't just hop on and assume we can sit there.

As for flight attendants in the cockpit, as mentioned by others, we have no say. That is an FAA rule, and it doesn't matter what we say or put in our contract, the FAA says no, sorry. Being mean and taking it out on pilots won't change the rule, because we have no say in the matter.

And it will only take a handful of FAs to be replaced before it sinks in.

I suggest you dump your attitude of having some semblance of say with the Jumpseat. If you think hard enough, the CAPTAIN has the final say. If he says no, you're off the airplane.

You want a war, you'll get it and you'll lose.

Figure it out now.
Making some new friends?

So there is wiggle room for the f/a or an employee with direct involvement with flight operations to ride the cockpit jump seat on a limited bases

Why don't you look it up in the FAR's instead of just winging it...

No "wiggle" room, only those authorized in the particular airlines "ops specs".

On the west side. I don't care about the east side just yet.

And when the pilots do negotiate the use of the cabin jump in our contract, then what?

Who do you think will win?

You may have a misconception here.

Cabin jumpseats being available to the pilots on the West is not contractual.

I kind of like the idea of the pilots going to negotiations and asking for a contractual statement of use for the CABIN jumpseat. The company will of course say no can do, we already gave exclusive rights to the F/As, at which time the pilots will reply, well you should have asked us first, but we will settle for unlimited SA1P non-rev priority.
