Hello to all.

I'm looking for a little info on the astar, I"m not an astar driver, but have a couple of questions with regards to them.

1.How is the oil cooled in the AS350, and by what means.

2.Can anti-icing fluids be used on the blades.

Thanks for your time.

Engine and trans oil cooled by airflow thru coolers on roof, ram air plus thermostatically operated fan.

T/r oil by radiant cooling on airflow over gearbox.

Hydraulic oil by running lines thru transission case thus cooled by transmission oil.

Yes can use de-ice fluid on blades.

Wow it must be recurrent exam time for everyone. That sounds just like a question of my exams.

De-icing fluid yes, but some chemicals like methonal cannot be used on the compsite material.

I'm no expert so if I'm wrong I don't mind being corrected.

Sorry;

Blades are ok but MUST keep ALL deice fluids away form rotorhead, the elastomeric bearings(rubber) must not have any type of deicing fluid on them, even if they were approved wouldn't use near them any way.

Astar blades are pretty tough but careful with heat, I usually use bladecovers or hanger,HA. Ice scrapers work fine though don't hit the blades, I think we've all seen the damage on 206 type blades from that.

Problem with most deicing fluids is that they don't take ice off that well unless applied warm, and if there is much snow around it dilutes the fluid and causes a visious circle, install covers prior is best medicine always.
