Atheism

Never happened once in my life...

I wasn't aware religious choice was/is a prerequisite for a job or placement in a school.....unless you're going into the clergy....

An atheist preist........

When were you an atheist?

Technically it's not but I have experiences various employers using round about ways of determining faith. "Will you be able to work Sunday mornings." There once was the "Oh bless your heart, your jewish." She saw my star of david on my neck. And a few others stealth ways of determining faith.

My dad was told point blank by Delta back in the 50's that they don't hire jews. He had a number on his arm so it's not like he could hide it. He was interviewing for a FE position.

1. How are atheists treated as second class citizens, please educate me as I have never seen it in the news?

I wouldn't have a thing to argue that line with if all I ever watched was fox news and all I ever read was the bible. But out here in the real world, it's a different story.
I don't personally know an atheist who hasn't had to lie or change the subject when asked about their beliefs to get a job, placement in a school, etc at least a few times in life. Conversely, as a religionist, you haven't had to deal with that, unless you are a muslim or jew. As I said before, enjoy that while it lasts, because it will not for long. Perhaps if you live long enough to have to hide or downplay your religious views (I have no idea how old you are), you will see what we have had to deal with. Or maybe you'll just grow up and stop attempting to ridicule people who do not share or accept your wish-fulfillment fantasies.

Until such time, I will reiterate, this fact is not up for debate.
When I went for my interview for Saudi Arabia, logically, the best chances for me getting the job (regarding religion) were to proclaim that I am agnostic and interested in Islam.
But how can I? I am Christian. I told them I am Christian but will not break their laws. Worked there for 2 ½ years without breaking my convictions.
This was the one and only time in my career (40+ years) that I was ‘ever’ asked about my religion.

Guess this shows the tenacity in your commitment to your belief, honesty and ethics.
Too bad you don’t have the balls to stand your ground, other than the internet.

It’s not up for debate? Why, what are you afraid of?

You must have misunderstood what I was saying.....I meant I never had anyone trying to find out what faith or whatever I subscribe to when applying for a job.
I've experienced the work Sat's and Sun's but those jobs ran 24/7.....so I don't think that counts....

Me an atheist? I have doubts and questions................I have issues with angels with wings and all that. How would man describe a being ascending to the skies with no grasp or concept of technology? He'd use what he has at his disposal...like birds....Angels supposedly came down and made booty with God's children and ticked Him off. So what we got then? Someone in a standard orbit around and 'M' class planet? Got me....

American Indians coined the word ThunderBird.....did they have huge farting birds then? I doubt it.....

Christ was crucified and His life is recorded................
Lot to think about.........lot to accept.....its all about your faith. That's it.

2. Great a bigot calling me a bigot. How am I bigoted? Are you going to eradicate me because you don't agree or understand my belief?

A. A reasoning person is telling you that your views are bigoted. Nothing more, nothing less. If "nuh-uh, uh uh... more like you!" is the best you can manage, then it's clear that intelligent debate is not your thing. I hope for your sake that you're not a lawyer.

B. No one said anything about eradicating you, and you know it. Through education and through the fading of just how patient the rest of society is with the increasingly fringey views of christianity and islam (in particular) you and others like you will eventually stop clinging to these ridiculous fantasies. Don't believe me? Ask yourself when was the last time you saw a church dedicated to Zeus. Or Rah. Thought so...

A. Ah yes, of course you are the ‘reasoning person’… LOL
Self appointed and all knowing. Think I’ll pass. B)
Your version of ‘intelligent debate’ is when everyone agrees with your ignorance?
GOD I hope you are not a lawyer because your arguments stink.

B. We’ll see. Atheists have been killing everyone that doesn’t agree with them for centuries, any big surprise here?

3. So you atheists propose science instead of theism. When there is no scientific proof, you fall back on your 'belief system' of only believing what you want and ignoring everything else.
Ah, yes...The "Absolute" dodge. Claiming that if you can't be absolutely right than what you contend is on equal footing with what anyone else is contending, ignoring observed rules and past history. The thing is nobody, and I mean nobody, really believes this, otherwise they would be afraid to get out of bed in the morning because they absolutely couldn't be sure that a piano isn't waiting for them to step outside so it can crash down on them from three stories up. Are you absolutely sure it can't happen?

Putting it another way... "The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet." ~Damon Runyon
It is no ‘dodge’ (or chevy). You post a bunch of nonsense and expect some kind of reasoned response.
Collect yourself and try again.

Oh Yea, I am a narrow minded bigot.

You're espousing bigoted views, likely from a place of fear. What are we supposed to think?

Bigoted because I don’t agree with you?
That’s rich… LOL
Fear? How so? I never compromised my belief through intimidation and fear.
You are the little poster here with brave accolades while crying in the closet.
I have been ‘fear tested’ and passed!
Here is a little something for you:
psalm-23.jpg

I believe there is an impulse within most of us, if not all, to connect with or at least to apprehend that which is greater than we. This impulse or instinct manifests itself at various times, but more frequently during times of sorrow or grief, happiness or joy - and almost always when confronted with foreboding or fear. Many an atheist has found Jesus in a dark alley or burned out foxhole or when confronted in other ways with their mortality. This impulse seems to be programmed into our psyche. Traditionally we have given the object of this impulse different names in different religions; and if all religions were eradicated tomorrow, the impulse would survive. It is like a faint echo, or afterglow of the psychic or spiritual version of the Big Bang; that singularity from which our consciousness and self awareness sprang into existence.

Just sayin.

Lol, you meant intelligent, non-delusional thinking. And all I've ask is that you keep up. So far, that just hasn't been happening. Hell, it appears that even something as simple as formatting your responses correctly is just too much to ask.

Look, literally everything, and I do mean everything, you've posted is either a blatant falsehood, or an emotive release of some nature. You have offered literally nothing to substantiate your opinions on matters of faith. A crayoned in poem? That's supposed to convince anyone of what exactly?

I have been ‘fear tested’ and passed!

I doubt it. The reason I keep coming back to the whole xUT is deeply afraid of what DarkSnowyNight has to say meme is because it is absolutely true. I deal only in facts (hence the whole "no faith" thing) and I do not win any brownie points for pretending to be ignorant. Your continued and almost universally reactionary attacks to comments that weren't even directed to you in the first place tell me in no uncertain terms that you are not as faithful as you claim, that you know deep down in there the same thing I do. That when you die, you end, period. The difference is that to you that is not acceptable. There is no other reason why you would feel the need to react that viscerally and emotionally when confronted with that reality.

Understand something while we're on the topic. There are indeed things in life that I'm afraid of. I can say that because I'd rather that be known than parading around in invisible clothing, so to speak. I'll freely admit that a letter from the former spouse, or the Corporate Standards Board can easily ruin my whole day. But when it comes to religion or god or the easter bunny or whatever, no, I am very much a "foxhole atheist." Faith is useless once you've seen it for what it is.

I'm going to do you a favor. Please understand that since I am aware of this, I will not direct any further comments to you xUT (on this subject anyway), as it is genuinely not my intention to cause you the level of anxiety that hearing the facts about this issue so obviously does. I cannot help what you choose to take from anywhere else in this matter of course. But feel free to ignore my comments, as again, it is not my intention to cause you anxiety and loathing with regard to the inescapable human condition of mortality.

I did misunderstand.

Yea tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of evil, I will flip off the Atheists and their morally bankrupt dogma and ignore them at my leisure, because I can. I will dismiss them out of hand and resist the temptation to argue with fools. So sayeth the Sparrowhawk, So it is written, so shall it be! September 38, 2011AD

Definitely not all. In '89 I was held up at gun point by two men where I used to work. I can replay it moment by moment in my head and a plea to a supernatural being never entered my mind. I distinctly recall thinking that getting shot at close range by what looked like a 9mm was going to royally suck and probably not end well. I recall hoping that none of the mall rent a cops showed up to do something stupid. I also recall wondering how long it would be till I was discovered and hope I had not bled out by then.

My parents are holocaust survivors and both completely lost faith. They saw the worst that man kind has to offer and concluded that no benevolent god could allow that to happen to innocent men women and children. There were others who faith was hardened by surviving such hell on earth but it was not all.
