It's hard not to be about cost first.
Assuming... 12 additional rooms x 363 days (assuming 9 FA's and 3 pilots and cancellations for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve).
That's over 4,350 additional room nights, at somewhere between $50 and $75/night, coming out to $216K to 326K.
There's also probably another $150K or so in TAFB, plus generally longer drives to/from the long layover hotel, adding incrementally to the transportation cost.
I wouldn't be surprised if it came out to $500K a year to extend the trip by a day. Probably not out of the question to justify in the name of QWL, but that program died 15 years ago.... 😉
