One never knows about Bethune. My son sent me a link to an interview of Bethune upon his departure from Continental in....2004? The article gave great insight into his understanding of employee/employer relationships and the consequences of pissing off your employees. I can't find the link now but perhaps somone more computer savvy could dig it up and send it to Doug......or perhaps just urinate in a wet suit and get a warm feeling because Doug does not care or understand about those things.

I think Mr. Bethune is happily retired and intending to remain that way. He is well past the time that of his "no compete" clause. He promised his employees that he would not go to work for the competition, but Continental no longer exists, either. He is certainly young enough to take this on for a few years if his health is otherwise good. But it certainly would be a blessed miracle if it happened.

You seem to have earned a lot of respect amongst your peers and I believe generally avoid provoking any reactions with simple insults here...so for that you've also earned the general respect of west pilots. Now that being the case, please don't think that I am trying to provoke by insult a reaction from you. Doug's job is not to induce a warm feeling by us for him, but rather...for the stockholders to enjoy the warm feeling for Doug. Pilots may think they have the power to pee in Doug's Cheerios, but as the slap-down injunction against USAPA clearly proved, Scott Theuer's theory of the east not needing the west was woefully naïve. However, the stockholder's are quite pleased with Doug's general performance and in particular, his listening ability. When east pilots advised Doug that they would rather work under loa 93 than an improved contract with the Nic, Doug was listening...and happily obliged. You can't blame the man for taking east pilots at their word...even though west pilots justifiably, never will.

That was very educational, thank you! Any of you EASTIES ever heard of some guy named STEPHEN M. WOLF, not to be confused with Steppenwolf, the rock band!

History is on it's way to repeating itself, http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2000-05-24/news/0005240190_1_airways-east-coast-airways-chairman-stephen-wolf-rakesh-gangwal

Most amusing. " Pilots may think they have the power to pee in Doug's Cheerios, but.." instantly followed by some pathetic invertebrate's fantasy that the east needs the west, and with that; the grandiose assumption that "you'se" mighty "spartans" would be anything other than useless dead weight, or far worse ("Can I turn them in!?"?Yea! for "fuel school and the injunction!"/etc). No matter really....Thanks for the laughs. 😉

For over six observed years now: The west does nothing more than furiously thrash pom poms for your first-name-basis-"friend"..."doug", and generally just drool and slobber at management's feet. Even if instantly granted your nic gift..."you'se" would remain worthless. To be fair; I'll offer the following questions: Management's little "usefull idiots" would then supposedly help any combined group efforts at contract improvements? Really?...umm...How? This oughta' be good for some serious chuckles. 🙂 In my honest estimation; one could substitute a doormat emblazoned with "This is sparta!" instead of the west pilots' entire little "army", and reasonably envision more "combined-group" respect coming from management. Your fine bunch has shown your true colors for years. I'd prefer joining "forces" with the described doormat, said doormat would at least be good for something.

They never quite understand that we KNOW they are Mesa with bigger airplanes.

They never quite understand...

Which is, in all fairness; perhaps the predictable product of simply not knowing much of anything outside their tiny world. No matter really. Who cares at this point? I wouldn't trust their bunch to be useful for anything, ever. Give 'em all a nic ticket this very instant, and they'd still be who and what they are ("can I turn 'em in?/Tee Hee; isn't the injunction on all of us just great?"/Fuel School..How DARE any supposed "Pilot" NOT want to see their cockpits micro-"managed" by far-distant beancounters?/etc/ad nauseum). These "spartans" would prove utterly worthless in any aspect of confronting management. Nothing but management's little "usefull idiots", and just a detriment towards ever achieving anything better than what pathetically little they've seen (been "graciously allowed" to see) to date.

Put the bottle down Michael and get the help your rambling post clearly indicates you desperately need! Maybe your HIMS Committee people will help you up from the gutter...seeing as how much you believe USAPA has accomplished by alienating the west.

..seeing as how much you believe USAPA has accomplished by alienating the west.

The mighty "west", little "spartans", most certainly inclusive of yourself, would prove utterly worthless in any efforts against management's wishes. "You'se" have proven that for six-plus observed years now, and arguably; ever since 1983.

"you rambling post clearly indicates you desperately need"..? Sure thing, "Doctor Phil".

"you'se" clearly couldn't form even the slightest semblance of a coherent "thought", much less answer to the above = To be fair; I'll offer the following questions: Management's little "usefull idiots" would then supposedly help any combined group efforts at contract improvements? Really?...umm...How? This oughta' be good for some serious chuckles....? 😉

Delve into a bit of transactional analysis: What possible gain would the east see from granting your nic wish, and how would "you'se" then be of any actual value in achieving, well...ANY gains whatsoever? Did the re-phrasing energize and embolden your few functional synapses sufficiently so that you might even vainly attempt a coherent "thought"/response?...Didn't think so, but one must always have hope. 🙂

Posited for debate and honest consideration: These "spartans" would prove utterly worthless in any aspect of confronting management. Nothing but management's little "usefull idiots".

You're entirely welcome, and indeed, fully encouraged to attempt an/any argument to the contrary.

No response? No matter then. Carry on, little "spartan". 😉

............and bigger paychecks than us.......and more vacation than us.......and better duty rigs than us.
Why am I not surprised that it hasn't occurred to you that if we would have had pay parity from day one, and would have been on a level playing field from day, and had been a united group of pilots at the new USAir, things would be totally different today. Last night, I tried to explain that and may have been a little harsh with the way I put it. I should have said that since the West pilots had never been through a merger before, their lack of experience, and the NIC lottery ticket blinding them, which is understandable, I think the West made a bad choice in demanding that management not give us parity. Don't get me wrong, it's not about the money at that point, it's about gelling as a united group of pilots. My apologizes to you West pilots.....my rum was talking too loudly last night. This all could have gone so much better for us all. But, some guys, TRADER, just can't seem to figure it out. breeze

The Company, MEC's and JNC had all earlier agreed that Pay Parity would result from the completion and ratification of a JCBA. The east's little tantrum and poor strategy of attempting a power-play by pulling out of JNC negotiations is what sentenced you to loa 93. Management and west pilots knew that keeping east pilots on loa 93 was the only way to motivate you to return to the table...and honor your obligations. Sharing the rum with Mr. Dale?

.....west pilots knew that keeping east pilots on loa 93 was the only way to motivate you to return to the table...

That was clearly, a truly brilliant strategy on your part, but; if "you'se" were simply using the opportunity to demonstrate what worthless excuses for "fellows" you were, are now, or could ever be, well..."you'se" succeeded admirably.

"was the only way to motivate you to return to the table." The very failure of your "noble" efforts there should've given any rational creature (or even anything with even the slightest pretense towards sentient capability) some pause to reconsider your "thinking", but, of course, not "you'se"..umm.."spartans"...whom, as a group, were clearly not hired with IQ being of even the slightest concern, nor even ever tested for.

PS: "west pilots knew" does qualify as a formidable and early entry for the Joke of the Day for 29Sept. Thanks for the dependable laughs. 🙂
