What's new

awa/ua

I couldn't agree more about PHX if there is indeed talk about a merger with UA.......I honestly think that AWA and PHX were just stepping stones on the way to a bigger merger.

The synergies from the merger aren't being realised because of a contentious labor force in the East hubs.

Yup, Doogie pulled a Rumsfeld there. He thought he would be "greeted as a liberator". And just like Rummie, he has no idea how to get rid of the "insurgents" now.

Then again, he'll make his money regardless.

Funny, but I've heard something similar. Merge with UA, sell off redundant east coast base in PHL. Move some or most of the PHL flying to IAD.

Mostly because the synergies from the merger aren't being realised because of a contentious labor force in the East hubs.

Yep, everything is the nasty employees' fault, and Dougie is an innocent babe in the woods.

Now, back to reality.

1. Dougie bought US after US went thru 2 BK's to get employee and vendor contracts to his liking.

2. Dougie justifies the big CEO pay because of his mad management skillz.

3. So now, rather than cowboy up and admit he ain't all that special (just another among the many run-of-the-mill CEO's that I wish were a dime-a-dozen), we blame the employees. And might I add, the PHL gripes were aired on this board well before the merger, so AWA knew what they were getting.

Slight change to your verbiage to make it more accurate.

Just like Rummie, Dougie does not know how to deal with the insurgents that he, himself, created.

Rumors flying out west that Doug may try to merge with united and move alot of their SFO/DEN flying out east and shut the east coast operation of US down since the east SUCKS so bad.
Yes and PHX and LAS run like well oiled machines that should be the poster children of how to run a quality airline!!!  Anyway, now that I've cleaned the peepee out of my trousers. I think it is safe to say that something is brewing on some level, the people running US Airways may not be smart enough to run a competent efficient airline, but DO NOT discount that Doug Parker has the BUSINESS sense to try to put something together to stand up against the attack that Delta wants to unleash. While a UA/NW/US merger of some sort seems uncomprehendable(sp?) stranger things have happened.

I heard a rumor that that the HP part of the operation was going to be auctioned off on ebay and the HP workers were being sold into slave labor in China.
Too bad for you, HP workers are here and after all your nasty posts about the west I hope you are one of the preferred who prefers another airline. We hear that alot of preferred have left for other airlines and Art, who Ive had the please to meet is doing more trvl oal. Why dont you make HP's dreams come true and leave???? I've NEVER advocated ANY preferred leave but you are the most arrogant SOB to post and my dreams would be for YOU to NEVER fly US aggain! Too bad my dream wont come true!! ####, ####, and more #### about the west employees, just dont fly US any more!!!!!! By the way, West agents are starting training preferred. Leave before you have to talk to any of US! Oh, and by the way did you hear HP/US employees work for the same company. Take you crap elsewhere cause half the company would be thrilled to see you go! God willing, I will never have to deal with you!

And this is one of the primary reasons that the US/UA merger was nixed in 2001.

The US/UA merger was nixed due the fact UA stopped all lobbying efforts.

There has NEVER been a merger shot down by the DOT when BOTH management teams have lobbied for it.
If you think D.C. cares about anti-trust then explain why they approved the TWA/Ozark merger.

As I recall, the DOT was likely going to approve it but the DOJ announced that they intended to bring suit to stop the merger. I believe they said that the plan to spin off DCA slots to Potomac Air wouldn't allow adequate competition to a combined United/US in the Washington market.

Given DOJ's apparent resistance, the merger proposal was whitdrawn by United.

Jim

Right, but if DCA is sold off and reduced as well as most, but probably no all, gates in PHL sold to SWA and AirTran, etc. I don't think DOJ would have a problem.

With all the capacity in the domestic system right now Doug and Kirby are focused on overseas expansion in asia and South Am.

So, Dulles gets more feed that would go to DCA. CLT becomes a major hub in the South Am expansion. PHL goes to a Focus city and people transfer of lose out.

I don't know, but as I think about it, this is starting to make more sense....
