Bachmann promises $2 gas

Well, you see, the selfless, civic-minded oil companies have already promised her that if she will lower the tax on oil company profits to 5% or less, they will lower the price of gas to $2/gal at their earliest convenience. If it doesn't become convenient? Oh well.

P.S. Surely you are not going to suggest that an oil company might not tell the truth! You're probably one of those pinko-socialist liberals who doubted their statements that the last Gulf of Mexico oil spill has been shown to have done no environmental damage whatsoever.

That would be a neat trick. She's either playing people for fools or she is one. Maybe someone should send her a memo saying that if a presidnet had that sort of power GWB Jr and Obama would have done it already.

Hard question. The easy part is playing people for fools. They believed Bush with all his lies. They believed Obama when he said he would pull all the troops out of the ME and close Gitmo. They will believe this idiot when she claims to have control over gas prices. So playing the people for fools is a given.

The hard part is whether or not she is a fool. I do not know if it would blow up in her face till after she is elected because by that time it would not matter. All she wants to do is win at any cost (that's all any of them want) but she just happens to be willing to go that extra mile. It's obvious she cannot do what she claims as someone else pointed out because Carter, Bush and Obama would have done so. She obviously does not care about the American people because if she had this ability she would have told who ever is in power how to accomplish this task and be the hero of the day. Even if proven wrong (easy task) the people who believe her do not base their decisions on fact and logic. It could prove a win/win for her. The people who know she is nuts would never vote for her in the first place. The people who believe in her could care less that she is an idiot. It gets her free press and in the worlds of politics, any press is good press.

I never thought I would see a day when someone said something that made Palin look smart. That's the really scary part.

Gonna be long 8+ years for you thin skinned liberals

For many of us, that day was in January 2009, and has been repeated many times over during Pharaoh Bama's reign.

Tick, tock.....

What you may or may not have figured out is that when you say "$2.00 Gas" is it $2.01/Gal or $2.97/Gal???? Pretty slick statement on nher part.

Could we get $2.00/Gal gas again? YES and frankly it could easily happen under Obama. A few things would have to happen that he has been unwilling to do so far. However if he continues to sink like an anchor in the polls that could change.

Some have predicted that the price of oil would drop dramatically if we merely ANNOUNCED that we would permit drilling in ANWR. The drilling can be done safely with little if any long term damage. Another part of the strategy would be to make an announcement that he (Obama) wants to walk in the foot steps of JFK and establish a national goal of energy independence by 2022.

He can do this right now today and see IMO near immediate results on all fronts. We could easily have gas in the high $2's, low 3's by Christmas if he acted over Labor day weekend. You get gas down around $2.25 and he is IMO unbeatable. Why? Because a big drop in gas prices would put more money into circulation for our consumer driven economy. Food prices would drop as well as anything made from petrol. Additionally we'd have more tax revenue as more gas was being used and the economy starts to grow a bit more robustly.

I think Michele Bachmann made a very astute move as it's highly likely we could see $2.25/gallon gas in short order. It won't take much for the bottom to fall out of oil prices. It can probably be accomplished with a microphone and TV camera.

What's the problem ? Nobama played all of you for fools and got elected !

People are delusional if they think drilling in ANWR is going lower gas prices to $2 a gallon. It simple math really, and some cold hard facts. The US has about 3% of the world’s oil reserves and uses 24% of that. We consume 19 million barrels a day, at its peak oil production from ANWR might be 800,000 barrels a day. Of course that peak production won't happen overnight and when it does worldwide consumption will have risen.

That brings up another set of facts. The price of oil is set on the world market, not on the US market. If OPEC feels that the price of oil is going to fall to much all they have to do is cut production. Then there are other facts like the value of the dollar, all the drilling in the world will have no effect on that. Or natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes etc. Then there are wars that bring uncertainty which brings about higher prices.

You talk about lower gas prices allowing more money being available in a consumer driven economy. Here's one way you could do that, drive more efficient cars. The other day I filled up at my local Costco. The person in front of me driving had a Chevy Suburban and put $70 worth of gas. My four banger took a little over $30. Driving away I had close to $40 more in which to spend on something else. Try saying that we as the American people have a role in this as well and see what happens.

I have a small business and a van. I use it for my business.
Many small businesses use Costo for shopping. As do I.
Should I go shopping in 4 banger to make you feel better?

Did I say anything about people who use trucks and/or vans for a business? I did not so please stop with the "Should I go shopping in 4 banger to make you feel better?" crap.

That guy who spent $70 in gas for his Suburban, chances are he was not using it for a business. Who would spend that kind of money on an SUV for hauling stuff around when you can get a van or a truck for much cheaper AND have more carrying capacity?

So I am well aware that there are people who drive trucks or vans for business reasons. However most people who drive around in SUV's, and more than a few pick truck owners, do not need them. It's more of a statement of "Look how much money I make", or in a lot of cases "Look how much debt I put myself in" than actual need.

The real point here is it's NOT your call. We are a nation founded upon individual Freedom & Liberty which includes the right to choose the car you drive. When government tries to force choices through market manipulation they become tyrants.

Could you show me where I said people should drive a certain kind of car or that the government should mandate it? You are going to come up snake eyes on that one.

If you had bothered to read what I said you would have figured out the point I was trying to make. Basically we the American people have a hand in all this and to pretend it's just the fault of whoever is in the White House, an oil company or the actions of some third world country is self deluding. But I guess that's all lost on you.
