The only thing this country truly needs is a balance of power between corporatists and unionists like we had between 1950 and 1970. Right now what we have is a two party system of the Evil(republicans) and the Stupid(democrats), and as Pat Buchanan once said,"if you put the two parties in a boat, and leave them to their own devices, one group will go to one side and the other to the other side and they'll end up turning the boat over. It's the labor unions that have been the ballast to keep the boat upright".
All this other hogwash debate about the candidates for president is deciding how we prefer to drown.

The problem with looking at the period 1950-1970:
1) The economy of the US, and our ability to virtually serve all markets with US Manufactured goods was due to the fact that much of the rest of the worlds' industrial base had been destroyed during WWII.

2) Absent such generalized destruction over a global scale, it is highly unlikely that the economic conditions will return which allowed unions and management to both expand production and increase wages.

The issue now is why the membership of Unions is no longer willing to follow their respective leadership so that a more militant stance capable of changing the terrain is possible.

I think the problem lies within the apathetic nature of the working force in America today......period.

What's union membership nowdays?? Less than 12%?

Like they really care anymore.
