Just to clear up the speculation on the Boyd group. He is not a scab as far as I know. He is an ex Braniff manager.

His group includes a United pilot and is based outside of denver. The Boyd group developed a traffic management program and tried to sell it to United. I don't know what the details of it were, but it seemed to be some kind of a rolling hub concept. Anyway, United did not buy it. This is the reason he hates us IMO. Notice he is a consistant and reliable anti-UAL voice for the press and his past doom predictions have not come true. As to the end of his commentary where he conceeds that TED might work in spite of itself, he is hedging because he knows that it stands a very good chance.

FWIW,

I'll have to apologize if I erred in my characterization of Michael Boyd. The info I posted I'd heard from another and should've known better than to put it on here without first checking it out first-hand.

I'll look into it further from other sources and get back and post my findings on here. Again, I apologize for any misrepresentation of the "known" facts.

Cheers,
Z

Todd , thanks for info re Boyd group. I thought he might have gotten fired by UAL
for incompetence.
He is so wrong about UAL that i wish he would just shut up

I happen to agree with Michael Boyd that Ted is a really bad idea that is just going to destract management from fixing the mainline. As a person who reads his column most of his complaints are against United management and not the employees of the airline.

He did develope a rolling hub idea awhile ago... I think it's the system that AA implemented (please correct if wrong). It was also the Boyd Group who came up with the Free Flight. So the group does do some good work.

Just my two cents

Actually, Mike Beada, UAL 777 Capt is the author of the "Atilla the hub" rolling hub concept and the much of the "free flight" ideas. he just offers his consulting services through ASRC. boyd does have good points, however, the REAL purpose of his column is to draw attention to himself and his business. the more times he's quoted in the news, the more likely he is to get the attention of those small airports that seek consulting services. Amazingly, "I think Ted will do OK and UAL will come out of BK as scheduled.." just doesn't make for a front page of the business section article....

I generally enjoy Boyd's columns. He generally makes is predictions, and tells you later when he was right. (I doubt he would point out the things he was wrong on...) He also does this in a little bit of a brash tone, which I am sure is to try to drum up business (i.e. "See, we tell you how it is, not what you want to hear" style). I am not sure if it works in terms of gaining new business, but I generally find his opinions informed and entertaining.
