More and more airlines are wanting the Class and Craft Specific, AMFA, Union to represent them. Back in Feb. AMFA filed with NMB to have a representational election for the Mechanics at Sun Country after their grass roots efforts afforded them more than 80% cards collected in favor of an AMFA representation. See news release below by clicking on headline...

Press Release: AMFA Files Authorization for Representation Cards with NMB on Behalf of Sun Country Airlines Mechanics
February 25, 2022 – The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is proud to announce that it has filed with the National Mediation Board (NMB) to be the union representative of the aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) at Sun Country Airlines. “We are extremely honored that this workgroup has placed its utmost confidence in AMFA to help Sun Country Airlines recognize the importance our skilled, professional craft is to the airline,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA’s National President.

And this month AMFA files for an election at Spirit for their Mechanics seeking AMFA representation as well. With an overwhelming card collection of more than 50% of Spirit Mechanics and EVEN more than 50% of a combined Spirit AND Frontier Mechanics. See news release below:

Press Release: AMFA Files Authorization for Representation Cards with National Mediation Board on Behalf of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians and Related Employees at Spirit Airlines
May 6, 2022 -- The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (“AMFA”) filed Authorization for Representation cards today with the National Mediation Board (NMB) on behalf of the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (“AMTs”) and Related Employees at Spirit Airlines. “AMFA is thrilled the AMTs and Related Employees at Spirit Airlines have placed their faith in us to act as their union representative,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National President. “Their confidence in our abilities to represent them is evidenced by AMFA now having signed authorization cards from significantly more than 50% of the craft or class at Spirit Airlines. In fact, the number of signed authorization cards filed by AMFA is sufficient to be a majority of the craft or class at a combined Spirit-Frontier carrier.

JetBlue is also seeking AMFA and should have enough cards soon with the MC's now also coming onboard with AMFA as well.

AA is also another carrier where the Mechanics are starting up a grass roots effort to bring in AMFA as their Class and Craft Union to represent their Mechanics too. AA started in Nov. 2021 and will finalize later in 2022.

Airline Mechanics across the industry are seeing the major advantages of having a Class and Craft Union representing ALL of their needs. The industrial and over packed unions of most other airlines have way too many groups (up to 12 or 13 at other carriers0 and only focus on the largest group. One big example is the TWU at AA, they represent 12 different groups which puts the Mechanics at the bottom of that list that get priority by the union. The folks running this union are not even mechanics where ALL of AMFA's officers and leaders are ALL Aircraft Mechanics. Congrats to all the men and women @ Sun Country and Spirit for their hard work seeking AMFA as their representational entity. When it comes to representing the Mechanics in the airline industry, hands down, it is best to go with a Class and Craft Mechanics Union, AMFA!!!

FAIL!!!!!

CONCLUSION

The investigation established that AMFA failed to support is application with the required number of authorization cards from the employees in the craft or class as set forth in 29 C.F.R. § 1206.2(a) of the Board’s rules. Therefore, the Board finds no basis upon which to proceed in this matter and the application is hereby dismissed subject to 29 C.F.R. § 1206.4(b)(2) of the Board’s Rules.

With all the organizing and filings to the NMB for representational elections for AMFA, they also can add yet ANOTHER industry leading contract delivered to our fellow Mechanics over at Horizon Air.
Congrats to all the men and women @ Horizon for their new ILC.
AMFA gets it done again for the Mechanics Class and Craft in our industry.
I can promise you the Mechanics of Sun Country AND Spirit are noticing this in our industry. Shouldn't be long and we will be welcoming in the Sun Country Mechanics, and, should be hearing of the election going forward at Spirit announcement from NMB soon, stay tuned folks, it's gonna be a busy 2022 for AMFA...

AMFA-HORIZON AIR MEMBERS VOTE TO RATIFY CONTRACT
CENTENNIAL, CO --
May 10, 2022 -- “AMFA-Horizon members made it crystal clear with a 93% majority vote to ratify the tentative agreement at Horizon Air, they believe that this industry-leading agreement is what they deserve for themselves and their families,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich.
“I extend my sincere appreciation for our members’ support for the Negotiating Committee during bargaining and for the professionalism shown by the AMFA-Horizon Air membership.”
After a previously negotiated agreement failed, members of the AMFA Negotiating Committee went back to the bargaining table. “The Negotiating Committee listened to the membership and worked diligently to achieve this second TA,” said Oestreich.
AMFA representatives say the workgroups at Horizon Air faced labor shortages going into negotiations.
“This TA represents a fair and equitable wage increase which compensates our members for their hard work and talent,” says Oestreich. “With the wage gains in this contract, Horizon will be able to hire and retain the talented workforce it needs while allowing the company to grow and prosper.”
This newly ratified contract is a regional industry-changing agreement with significant pay increases, industry-leading license premiums, shortened pay progression scale, and retroactive pay.

Agreement in Principle Reached
We wanted to personally inform you that on May 5, 2022, Southwest and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) reached an Agreement in Principle (AIP) on a contract extension through 2026 for our Appearance Technicians.
An AIP is achieved when both Negotiating Teams have reached a general agreement on the terms of the contract, but need additional time to ensure no items have been omitted and that agreed upon terms are accurately expressed. Once this review is completed, both parties will declare a Tentative Agreement and prepare for membership ratification.
We are proud of the effort both Teams put forth to reach this new agreement, which benefits both our Appearance Techs and Southwest Airlines. The AIP includes fixed wage rate increases for our Appearance Techs, as well as other improvements to the contract.
Both Committees are working diligently to finalize the language in the contract extension. Once complete, you will receive the details of the agreement, additional information, and materials to review. We appreciate your patience while we work through these final items.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to your Union Representative, or email Southwest Labor Relations at [email protected].

Bravo 👏 AMFA hitting that home run for 182 people. Hey Swampy any chance you can tell me how great the wages are on that Industry Leading Contract because seriously it’s already kinda phucked up if you ask me that these professional AMT’s were earning a whole $5.37 per hour less than this lowly bag smasher at AA?

To be fair this was from an IBT Negotiated deal. Did AMFA do better than what a TWU represented “baggage handler” earns though is the question?

Ok seriously, OMG. No seriously again OMFG. I just looked and AMFA has not gotten these people a raise in the last 6 years. Their last raise was in 2016 and then they only went up to $23.74 per hour. Their contract became amendable in 2017.

On top of that AMFA was only able to negotiate an EXTENSION and not even a full deal to help grow their work!!!! That extension blows out their contract to 2026. That’s not a 4 year extension, that’s a 9 “NINE” year extension. Who the hell do these people really work for?

Ok I want to add something to this to show just how absolutely horrible or negligent AMFA truly is to a portion of their membership. These pictures are from the TWU Negotiated Ramp Contract. Notice the TOS rate of pay at $32.06 is $8.32 more than what current AMFA represented Appearance Technicians earn.

$8.32 MORE that the TWU was able to capture for Baggage Handlers.

Another busy month in the works. Just 2 weeks from the Spirit Mechanics vote count for AMFA representation.
Really happy to see AMFA leading the way for our industry in their legislative arena in better protecting the Class and Craft of the Mechanics.
Hearing the Spirit outcome will be very good. Very smart prior to getting into talks about merging/purchase with possible combo with JetBlue guys. Not so sure the JB Mechanics will get represented in time for the merger, but, at least the Spirit Mechanics will be. Maybe, the mechanics (Spirit) will get represented prior to even the Spirit BOD and shareholders voting in favor of the JB/Spirit hook up. :)

National President Update - July 2022
August 11, 2022 -- Hopefully everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration on the 4th of July. As I expressed at the beginning of 2022, this Association is prepared for growth this year as hiring efforts at all AMFA represented carriers remain in high gear. What is more, our industry-changing contracts, at both regional and mainline carriers, have been recognized by professional and skilled workforces resulting in aircraft maintenance technicians across the aviation industry reaching out to AMFA. It is evident we are rapidly approaching an AMFA representation movement.

Laughable.

Laughable.

Sounds to me in that update as if they’re crying Uncle. “Can’t we all just get along”

Now THAT’S laughable. POS A Holes go around trying to raid all over the place (Just for a cash grab by their Law Firm BTW) and now that the heat is on them they want to play nice.

Forget it Bert and Lee. You brought it on yourselves.

Ripoff. AMFA Members need to start asking the tough questions. The Law firm is called Seeham, Seeham, Meltz and Peterson.

So if AMFA is always claiming that their drives against already organized Mechanics is “grass roots” then WHY did the Law Firm charge over $100,000 to current AMFA members for “AA issues” in 2021? That doesn’t sound like grass roots to me. That sounds like a RAID

And BTW that’s on top of the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars they charge for all sorts of issues.

Gotta love how AMFA is “leading the way” by posting stuff on a blog site that only employs 85 people and almost nobody has ever heard of.

Is this some kind of joke?
