Just checked in and got the memo. The route to Paris will be flown by Philadelphia crews. I guess they did not want to pay for all the CLT flight crews to get visas.
OUCH!

How much is a visa? cheap bastards.. ha ha

French visas are about $80.00 and for all 2000 or so Charlotte flight attendants thats $160,000.00. You have to go on your off time and the process is a pain. What if they have to recrew this in Charlotte they can't use CLT people since they have no visas? And a deadhead down in the summer with the ramp closed in PHL for thunderstorms. This will be interesting.

Mhmm wait until Uncle Bill hears about this 😉 I'm sure this is a blessing in disguise for the PHL Intl Folks in the summer and the reserves *coughs* and a curse in the face of the CLT Intl Folks, LGW's always running out late anyways when IntlSnn isn't working at Wendys!!!!

Since the flight is a 767, they would also have to open a CLT 767 International crew base and then pay to train CLT 767 crews to do international operations. That would cost significantly more than the $80 Schengen (not French) visa.

And, since the press release says the service is seasonal, what would they do with all those internationally trained pilots in the winter? Pay them extra to fly domestic trips (when they already have sufficient crews to cover the domestic schedule?)

It makes no sense at all to train CLT crews for international operations for ONE SEASONAL city pair.

What about a PHL-CDG-CLT-CDG-PHL, would take a LOA for a 6 day. Not a bad trip with lots of time.

That makes sense.. you'd think CLT-CDG would work year round..

DUMB and DUMBER things have been done in the past to international flights and bases-----years ago the 330 in CLT had a short closure--seasonal I think they called it--- and DH'ed PIT crews to CLT to run the trip-----we all got a three month paid vacation----ooops---how much did that three month cost em---

You could say it cost the PIT folks their base.

i am under the impression that all intl flying will be done by phl crews in the future.

Visas for airline employees??? Now I heard everything!

Follow the buck and see where it stops because somebody has a pocket full of money! 😱

Only the French require this visa for crews from the United States. It's a reaction to some stupid bureaucratic requirement that US Customs and Immigration has imposed on foreign crews coming onto U.S. soil. It's startlingly obvious to anyone that, while U.S. crews going overseas are treated mostly with respect and swiftness, foreign crews coming here have to jump through many more hoops to simply do their job.

As much as a pain it is to get this visa, I certainly can't blame the French for this minor tit-for-tat.
