USA320Pilot,

it is actually Jakarta, and though I never been it has a big reputation is an airliner junkyard, a place where old airliners go to die, and there are probably dozens their. Since Garuda (the Indonesian Intl Carrier) does not fly the A-340 I wonder whose 340's these where and what sort of condition they are in?

Cheers

Not Really, unless you can specifically provide an example of commercial aircraft junked in Indonesia. The only reputation that Indonesia has as a junkyard is for pre-1975 military aircraft used in WWII and Vietnam. Further, it is highly unlikely that anyone would even temporarily store an aircraft in the humid Indonesian climate. And why would anyone even consider junking an A340-300, let alone 4, when they can sell or lease them as short term or cheap solutions to another carrier? Currently there are only 2 340-300s for Sale and 2 for Lease on the open market. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find any available 340-300s, even those planned for near future availability, which are less than 14 years old - not old, but they may not be competitive on a PHL-PEK, PHL-NRT route without major interior work. If it's true that Parker is actually looking at four 343s in Indonesia, they are likely from an Asian carrier who shortly will or already has a recent upgrade.

What a shame - US kicking the tires on used/tired/worn out aircraft which other airlines are discarding.

What a decline from the Wolf era. Just imagine the aircraft and service levels that Wolf would have for PHL-China route.

It's funny how the UAL people despise Wolfe while we idolize him.

A case of "I've been down so low it looks like up to me".
