CLT Bag Room Conditions ..REALLY Unsafe?

Of course not, you feel that you deserve every perk you can imagine.

Actually nothing can be further from the truth. I have long held that US was giving up a distinct competitive advantage by weakening the DM program and over time both Management Teams point of view began to see it our way. every Frequent Flyer has a perk or two they hold dear and they can be deal breakers if diluted or taken away.

For most of our members, Take away the CP desk and you'll see a marked drop in CP's. US's market research indicated the same.
The F/C snack tray was another one that was surprisingly popular.

Most FF'ers are business people so we're not unsympathetic to the challenges airlines face in a highly volatile market.

For you to come on here and make that kind of an insulting blanket statement would be like me saying all rampers are IAM thugs which is just not true.

The only reason I started this thread is that I was approached by two or more employees who work in CLT and asked to post this information. Apparently things are not going well down in the bag room, and some things appear to be getting worse. We were asked, we looked to verify and when we got corroboration I started the thread. I did someone a favor no more no less.

If you want to do them a favor, give them smart advice. Tell them that you don't get results by getting someone else to post something on an internet forum to fix the problem. Tell them to come here themselves and ask "What can I do to try to fix the problem?" Tell them to go to management, their shop steward, or the safety committee in their station.

That was my first suggestion, necigrad, however they have done that and have been rebuffed or ignored. The individuals who brought it to us won't post it themselves for fear of retribution.

It is somewhat similar to what happens on the customer side....someone has a bad experience or gets stranded by US due to circumstances WITHIN their control, and they get nowhere with customer relations. When they come to us, we evaluate each case, and IF they have merit, we refer to a contact within US. For the most part, we are successful in resolving the issue to the satisfaction of the customer.

In this case people have spoken up, nothing has happened so they come to us. I don't think we will be as successful as we are with customers, but we can hope a glimmer of light will be shone on the issue. That's all we ask.

I won't argue that perks are important to elites, and obviously during tough times we all have to give a bit. I threw in the towel on glassware and closets MANY moons ago. Imagine my surprise when the glassware came back on a limited basis. I'm OK with the way that US has chosen to use glassware. I think it's a fair compromise.

I think that the more important issue is the way in which information is communicated. Management sees things which customers and the employees do not see. The reverse is also true. Once the lines of communication break down, what you end up with is the kinds of threads which populate this board, where everybody just attacks each other instead of using the forum as an opportunity to engage in respectful, constructive feedback on all sides.

And to take this analogy a step further, there has been little or no communication between management and the rank-in-file since Tempe took charge. They sure talk a good game as is apparent from the "town halls" and other meetings that have occurred over these years. However, we still have 2 separate pilot unions, and there are other aspects which management still has not addressed.

If there was truly open communication, then the CLT workers who approached us about these conditions (yes, I was also contacted, but I was/am still on vacation and couldn't get online to open this thread) should have felt they could contact someone in management and express these concerns.

There isnt two separate pilot unions, there is one, USAPA, their isnt a joint contract yet.

Sounds to me that, based on how you deal with customers the same thing happened then. The agents saw a problem and brought it to the attention of others. Sure the company might be in disagreement, and a bias could be assumed. I would then repeat the need to go to a shop steward. If the union also feels there's nothing they've done exactly what you're suggesting you do for yours. If they haven't gone to the union, shame on them.

BTW, not posting on an internet forum for "fear of retaliation" is a cop out of laziness. There are a few people that know who I am, several more that know or think they know. That's after posting off and on here for years. If I wanted, I could create a new account here, argue with myself, and no one would be the wiser. Anyone can EASILY post whatever the hell they want here and only give the info they want to share. The middleman isn't a person like you, it' s the internet itself by its nature.

Necigrad,

I don't know what happened on the other side before or since it was brought to us. A couple of my board members and I were asked to post this information, and after we did due diligence (which included hearing the same from one or more OTHER people), I proceeded to do so. I was just the messenger in this case.

I have passed your comments and suggestions along to those with whom I spoke about the issue, and I have heard that one or more of the concerns there is actually being addressed or researched. Time will tell, but perhaps this has had a positive effect SOMEWHERE......

Thanks for the suggestions and comments without being inflammatory or argumentative.

Some day employees here may realize that FFOCUS is one of your best allies.

If they contacted the Media, the employee is violating company policy and can be terminated, they are not allowed to take unauthorized video or pics, and the belt is in an AOA restricted area, if you let the TV crew in its a security breach.

So, gee, maybe they should contact a group like FFOCUS.

Are not multiple accounts here a TOS violation?

Not sure it this is true but I heard this afternoon that someone from OSHA was in the bag room at CLT today! Word is that it was TSA who called them in.

Maybe with OSHA snooping around perhaps something positive will happen for a change. Not holding my Breath.

Confirmation of this would be most helpful

I have money that says that if there was a warning sign of some sort-like Danger, Caution, Out Of Order, Do Not Use, a highway cone, etc.-OSHA would find no problem with the area involved. In other words, you wasted their time 🙄

Think! If you work with chemicals or hazardous materials, YOU are required to read the OSHA binder on that material, and see what to do to stay safe. If you don't do it or don't read it, it's on you. Example-OSHA requires you to wear a safety belt if you are on a lift, and your employer will reenforce it. I've seen people conveniently forget when management isn't around. If anything happens it's on you.

Now continue to see and hear no evil, because most are talking nonsense
