Company says it will not entertain parity

You work with scabs and preach against it. Your morality is guided by what you want in your wallet.
Nice try. But the last time I looked, United Airlines doesn't give me the option of deciding who I fly with. If they employ a scab and I work with them, then oh well, it is out of my hands. Working with a scab and supporting what they do/did are two entirely different things. So try again.

Your going to have to do better than that if you want to call me a hypocrite. Let's see some specific quotes where I supported a double standard.

PS. My morality is 100% intact. Thanks for your concern though. I am in the fortunate position of basing my decisions and my bidding on quality of life, not "what I want in my wallet."

Also, If it was just attrition, then wouldn't the East be satisfied with getting their attrition but accepting the rest of the award? (ie: relative seniority instead of DOH adjusted for LOS.) Just curious.

I think I've read several posts, stated to be from East pilots, that have stated such schemes to preserve attrition. Also, I agree with you that Nic, maybe deliberately, tried to remove the dysfunctional DOH list at US east because it is acting as an actual impediment to industry wide rationalization. However, I don't think he did a very good job of creating something that's likely to be implemented. Certainly, no amount of legal argument is going to create a decent environment for labor in the pilot ranks at the merged carrier.

Now I know the death of the DOH thing was just salt in the wound. But I really believe that the DOH is the true issue to most of the East, not the attrition. I could be wrong but that's the impression given. I think they are looking at the next merger and jockeying for position. Doesn't half of the attrition come from the f/o seat, the furloughs, and the guys on long term leave?

But as stated, I guess the reality is that both sides are cemented in their current position.

Both of your points are well taken. Attrition is the big killer item but there is talk also about what happens in the next merger if the Nic award stands.

Hmmmm... Maybe I should tell Glen that if he doesn't fire the "Australia Scabs" then I'll quit. Yeah, that'll work! 🙄 🙄 🙄

You crack me up. But thanks for contributing something useful to the conversation.

PS. My morality is 100% intact.

You've my utmost respect and fullest admiration in that case, as you're the only human being that I've ever "met" (certainly incuding myself) that can make such a claim.

Well, it's about time! I knew I would eventually force you into submission. 😉

Well..one has to abide by cultural differences and respect Living Saints. Perhaps I'll have the pleasure of flying you to the convention in JAX

I think that depends on where you are on the list. But here's the thing you guys don't seem to get... staying separate probably won't give you the desired scenario of taking all of the upgrades while West stagnates.

1) Shifting of block hours westward. It's happened already because of East staffing issues. The TA doesn't prevent that shift. In fact, West is publishing a large vacancy bid this month.

2) The current fleet plan definitely favors the West; all East 757's 737's and eventually 767's to be replaced by a much smaller number of A320's & 321's. West will slowly retire some 737's, but at a much slower rate than we accept 320's. West 757's stay to fly Hawaii.

3) The attrition was divided up because East pilots get a financial windfall at the expense of West pilots. So, future growth flying arbitrations will likely award all flying to West.

4) Although the East narrow-body scales are lower, the higher longevity actually makes the East pilots more expensive, so there's a financial incentive for the company to staff most of the flying with West pilots.

The East MEC knows this, but as usual, hasn't informed the East rank-and-file. They're too busy trying to deflect the blame from themselves for the Nicolau Award.
